West Indies Plantation style upstairs studio cottage just seven minutes from beaches and about 30+ minutes from SD airport! Sitting deeply off a quiet residential street, you will enjoy the light-filled, peaceful, quiet ambiance with your own personal entry and nearby parking spot. Currently a minimum stay of a month (29 nights) is required by the City of Carlsbad. Also close to restaurants, public transport, great shopping, organic markets, nightlife and parks.
The space
My husband and I are a designer/ builder team and love houses, architecture, design, colors, etc.! We have enjoyed living in our lovingly and personally designed and built home for 13 years, which is your view from the French doors and deck balcony. (Currently, we are living next door in our just completed new home, so we are accessible should you need us for anything.)
This lovely space is separate but overlooks the front of the main home and property. Currently a small quiet family is living there and because the loft balcony overlooks the front of the main home and driveway, you may sometimes see them coming and going.
We do love animals, but unfortunately have a strict no pet policy in order to keep your space allergy free.
We have traveled frequently ourselves and enjoy staying at places with interesting and unique architecture and enjoy meeting new people. We also prefer our accommodations to be very clean with nice, comfy beds. A small kitchen with basic cooking amenities allows you to prepare simple meals if you wish. We have also provided you with a coffee maker, microwave, 2-burner electric cooktop, toaster, blender, and small portable oven.
If you let us know, we can also provide you with beach chairs, beach towels and an umbrella for the beach. These are just a few of the reasons, besides the gorgeous weather, we think you'll love staying at our place!

The space
Our studio has been a long-time dream and has been built with love and passion. Everything was built new in Jan 2013. Features wood-clad custom windows quality, wood plank-style tile flooring, butcher block countertops, and nicely decorated throughout. Plus you have great sunset views from the kitchen. Perfect for a single person or couple looking for a very clean and updated place to call home during their travels.
We enjoy sharing this space with travelers and this is a great option to hotel staying. However, please keep in mind this is not a hotel and we only welcome guests who will be respectful and considerate of our home.
The casita is on the second level and attached to the main home. Please keep in mind that loud music, slamming of doors, and jumping or heavy walking will be heard through part of the house. Please see House Rules for more info.

Driftwood Bungalow is an elegant studio, well-planned so as to still feel spacious, with soaring vaulted wood ceilings and lovely light. It's very private, situated far away from our house on a large lot, on the other side of a sparkling saltwater pool – so you'll rarely see us. Two sets of big French doors open up to let in coastal breezes, and views of the lush landscaping and sparkling pool. To the rear is your own private yard with party lights and a gas BBQ.
It's well-equipped with everything you need for a long stay. The queen size bed is very comfortable with a high-quality medium/firm pillowtop orthopedic mattress. Dining table and chairs, full size kitchen, dishwasher, washer and dryer, coffee table with popup desktop, high speed internet, smart TV with Netflix included, good size closet... and much more. There is almost every possible amenity you'll need – if something is missing just ask.
BUSINESS TRAVELERS – Driftwood Bungalow is a great place to work from home with excellent high speed wifi. The coffee table pops up into a laptop desk, use the dining table, or work outside!
*PLEASE NOTE – Driftwood Bungalow is adjacent to our other Airbnb (Brooks Cottage) – but does not share a wall. They appear connected, but are actually two separate standalone structures built at different times. The walls of each unit were professionally soundproofed during construction. They are thoughtfully landscaped with high hedges and fences providing additional privacy. Guests often tell us they aren't aware of the other unit despite it being close by.

Driftwood Bungalow has a cooling wall AC unit, and gas wall heater.
AC isn’t often needed in Coastal Carlsbad, except for a few hot days in July or August when it's actually cooler to leave all the doors and windows open and let in the lovely coastal breeze – but you're welcome to use AC if you prefer.
Winter mornings and nights are sometimes chilly and the heater warms the place right up.

There is no "live cable" TV – however the TV has lots of free "live streaming" channels, very similar to live cable TV.

POOL & LANDSCAPING
Professionally maintained weekly. Expect some leaf blowing, and the landscapers will go into your private rear yard to take care of whatever needs doing.
You’re welcome to use the saltwater solar-heated pool from 7am to 7pm every day.
"Saltwater" means it's low on chemicals, much nicer than a regular pool.
"Solar-heated" means the temp is always around 10 degrees above the current air temp. So the water will still be chilly in the winter if you're brave enough!
The pool is for your personal use only – not for visitors or gatherings.

We don't allow visitors under 18 on the property because 1) guests stay with us specifically to enjoy an "adults only" property and experience, and 2) for safety and liability reasons due to the unfenced swimming pool.

CLEANING REQUIREMENT
Two options for cleaning:
1) Pro Clean
You pay our cleaner for a professional clean once every 4-6 weeks at their current rates. Currently costs $140 for around 2 hours, 2 people cleaning. Thorough good and basic clean, does not include laundry or changing sheets.
2) You Clean
Fine with us – provided you agree to keep specific things properly and regularly clean, which will otherwise get too damaged and need replacing. Eg: – stainless steel finishes, shower door, tiles and grout, etc. We can show you at check-in.
Included in your stay:
All-natural cleaning products, laundry detergent, dishwasher powder and other supplies such as toilet paper, kitchen towels, cleaning cloths and sponges, etc.
Move-out clean:
Paid for via Airbnb at time of booking. No need to clean, launder, tidy, or do ANYTHING when you leave – we take care of it all.

THE NEIGHBORHOOD
Our home is situated in a very nice, quiet, residential Olde Carlsbad neighborhood.
No Short Term Rentals are allowed in our neighborhood, making it even more peaceful.
Downtown Carlsbad and the beach are a 10-15 minute walk, a 5 minute bicycle ride, or a 2 minute drive.
If you bring bicycles we can show you options for place to secure them. We have a couple of old bicycles you’re welcome to use, provided you lock them up with the locks provided. You use our bicycles at your own risk.

Sean is a USCG Licensed Captain offering charters aboard our beautiful 42ft sailboat "Serenity".
It's a truly fantastic experience – sunset cruises, afternoon sails exploring for whales and dolphins, or just getting out on the blue water to cruise and enjoy the beautiful coastline.
Serenity is fully equipped for comfort with two staterooms, two heads, galley and a huge comfortable cockpit, with plenty of roomy deck space to move about the boat and relax.
If you’re interested in booking a sail charter we recommend booking well in advance if possible, as Sean gets booked up. Please ask for current rates.

ABOUT BROOKS COTTAGE
Brooks Cottage is an elegant, spacious 1-bed guest cottage with vaulted wood ceilings and five skylights looking up to the trees and stars. It's very private, situated far away from our house on a large lot, on the other side of a sparkling saltwater pool – so you'll rarely see us. Two sets of big French doors open up to let in coastal breezes, and views of the lush landscaping and sparkling pool. To the rear is your own private yard with party lights and a gas BBQ.
It's well-equipped with everything you need for a long stay. The queen size bed is very comfortable with a high-quality medium/firm pillowtop orthopedic mattress. Dining table and chairs, full size kitchen, dishwasher, washer and dryer, coffee table with popup desktop, high speed internet, two smart TVs with Netflix included, good size closet... and much more. There is almost every possible amenity you'll need – if something is missing just ask.
Brooks Cottage has two skylights in the bedroom. If you don't like the view of morning sunlight and treetops, we can easily cover it up – please ask.
BUSINESS TRAVELERS – Brooks Cottage is a great place to work from home with a printer, excellent high speed wifi, and hard-line ethernet if needed. In addition to the work desk, the coffee table pops up into a laptop desk, use the dining table, or work outside!
*PLEASE NOTE – Brooks Cottage is adjacent to our other Airbnb (Driftwood Bungalow) – but does not share a wall. They appear connected, but are actually two separate standalone structures built at different times. The walls of each unit were professionally soundproofed during construction. They are thoughtfully landscaped with high hedges and fences providing additional privacy. Guests often tell us they aren't aware of the other unit despite it being close by.

The Cottage has one off-street parking space in front of our house.
Cottage access is down the main driveway, through a side gate, down a winding pathway through beautiful landscaping, to the French door entrance.
After 8pm we ask Cottage guests to use the entrance on the other side of the main house.

Like everyone in our safe, quiet neighborhood we're close to the freeway, which is a constant background hum.
Upside – quick freeway access! Having lived here for decades we never notice the sound, but we like to mention it so that nobody is surprised.

HEAT & AIR
The Cottage has an AC/heat mini-split in the living room, a wall AC unit in the bedroom, and gas wall heater in the living room.
AC isn’t often needed in Coastal Carlsbad, except for a few hot days in July or August when it's actually cooler to leave all the doors and windows open and let in the lovely coastal breeze – but you're welcome to use AC if you prefer.
Winter mornings and nights are sometimes chilly and the heater warms the place right up.

TWO TVs
Enjoy Netflix on two smart TVs in the living room and bedroom, or login to your personal streaming accounts.
There is no "live cable" TV – however the TVs have lots of free "live streaming" channels, very similar to live cable TV.

POOL & LANDSCAPING
Our landscapers and pool maintenance guy are the only people you will ever see outside your unit. If anyone else has to come on the property for repairs, maintenance, or any other reason, we'll always try to give you a heads up via text.
Landscapers – usually come Friday morning around 7:30am for an hour or so. Expect leaf blowing, and landscapers going into your private rear yard to take care of whatever needs doing.
Pool cleaning – the saltwater solar-heated pool is maintained weekly, day and time varies.
"Saltwater" means it's low on chemicals, less chlorine smell and irritation, more maintenance but overall nicer and healthier than a regular pool.
"Solar-heated" means the temp is always around 10 degrees above the current air temp. So the water will still be chilly in the winter if you're brave enough!
You’re welcome to use the pool from 7am to 7pm every day.
The pool is for your personal use ONLY – not for visitors, parties, or gatherings.

CHILDREN
We don't allow visitors under 18 on the property because 1) guests stay with us specifically to enjoy an "adults only" property and experience, and 2) for safety and liability reasons due to the unfenced swimming pool.

CLEANING REQUIREMENT
Two options for cleaning:
1) Pro Clean:
You pay our cleaner for a professional clean once every 4-6 weeks at their current rates. Currently costs $140 for around 2 hours, 2 people cleaning. Thorough good and basic clean, does not include laundry or changing sheets.
2) You Clean:
Fine with us – provided you agree to keep specific things properly and regularly clean, which will otherwise get too damaged and need replacing. Eg: – stainless steel finishes, shower door, tiles and grout, etc. We can show you at check-in.
Included in your stay:
All-natural cleaning products, laundry detergent, dishwasher powder and other supplies such as toilet paper, kitchen towels, cleaning cloths and sponges, etc.
Move-out clean:
Paid for via Airbnb at time of booking. No need to clean, launder, tidy, or do ANYTHING when you leave – we take care of it all.

We leave 5-7 days between bookings to properly prepare for your stay. Everything is thoroughly cleaned and laundered, and every surface is sanitized with Hydrogen Peroxide (CDC approved natural sanitizer).

THE NEIGHBORHOOD
Our home is situated in a very nice, quiet, residential Olde Carlsbad neighborhood.
No Short Term Rentals are allowed in our neighborhood, making it even more peaceful.
Downtown Carlsbad and the beach are a 10-15 minute walk, a 5 minute bicycle ride, or a 2 minute drive.
If you bring bicycles we can show you options for place to secure them. We have a couple of old bicycles you’re welcome to use, provided you lock them up with the locks provided. You use our bicycles at your own risk.

BOAT CHARTERS
Sean is a USCG Licensed Captain offering charters aboard our beautiful 42ft sailboat "Serenity".
It's a truly fantastic experience – sunset cruises, afternoon sails exploring for whales and dolphins, or just getting out on the blue water to cruise and enjoy the beautiful coastline.
Serenity is fully equipped for comfort with two staterooms, two heads, galley and a huge comfortable cockpit, with plenty of roomy deck space to move about the boat and relax.
If you’re interested in booking a sail charter we recommend booking well in advance if possible, as Sean gets booked up. Please ask for current rates.

If you will be bringing a Service Dog you are not required to notify us in advance, but Airbnb strongly recommends it's courteous to do so, and we agree.
Per ADA rules we’re permitted to ask, and appreciate knowing – 1) Whether you require your service animal because of a disability? 2) What work or task the service animal has been trained to perform?
Per ADA rules:
1) Service Animals must not be out of control, unhousebroken, left alone at the inside the unit, allowed into areas unauthorized to the guest, allowed in a public space without being harnessed, leashed, or tethered and not under the guest’s control.
2) There is no additional cleaning fee for a Service Animal. However per ADA rules SHOULD A SERVICE ANIMAL CAUSES DAMAGE, WE WILL CHARGE FOR REPAIRS the same as we would consider charging any guest in such circumstances.
Please note – there is one Sago Palm on the property. This plant is highly toxic to dogs – please ask and we'll show you where it is.

Our Australian Shepherd Ruby does not roam the back yard unaccompanied, so you'll rarely encounter her. On the rare occasion she sees you she'll bark, but it's just anxiety, she's a very sweet and smart dog.

The place is on the hill so there are near constant ocean breezes, and you can catch a glimpse of the ocean from the front yard. Inside you will notice the brand new mini split unit by Pioneer.
A full kitchen with brand new cabinets and granite countertops, a gorgeous bathroom with oversized shower with custom tile and art glass enclosure, granite countertops, and a large operable skylight for natural light and ventilation. You will have plenty of storage space including a large clothes closet, a large dresser and many brand new cabinets. Relax with the whole family at this peaceful place to stay, a spacious LR with pull out queen bed and a full kitchen, a Cal King bedroom & crib and high chair are available. We are also just a hop skip and a jump away from the World famous LEGO land and outlet shopping mall. If you plan on cooking there are grocery stores right down the hill. There are countless amazing restaurants close by as well. If you are looking to go a bit further you can find the San Diego zoo, wild animal park, sea world and downtown San Diego all within a 30-45 minute drive away. There are no shortage of sites to see. The Oasis is your 5-Star experience in a quiet community.
As a reminder, The Oasis is a NO-SMOKING/WEED/VAPING property, both inside and outside. If our Mînut smoke/weed detection system identifies smoke or other anomalies, it will alert you and our team. Our system will also provide a detailed report for our team to file a claim if necessary.
If/when smoking violations are confirmed via the Mînut technology, you and our team will be notified, per the data collected by the smart device.
Tampering with the device will set off an alarm and alert our team.
If smoke is detected, we must hire a professional smoke/sanitation cleaning company to abate the guesthouse of smoke and allergens for our next guests.
$1,000 SMOKE ABATEMENT FEE
If special cleaning services are needed, the guest who booked The Oasis agrees to be liable for a minimum $1,000.00 administrative, deep cleaning, and sanitation fee. You will be reported to Airbnb and responsible via a claim for lost revenue from the next booking.

From the spacious bedrooms you will enjoy easterly views of the hills of Carlsbad.
The kitchen includes high-end appliances, and is fully stocked with items for cooking including dishes, pots and pans, coffee maker, etc. Enjoy coffee in the cozy dining nook or on the balcony.
With two-bedrooms, two bathrooms, and closets with custom organization, there is plenty of room to enjoy yourself comfortably at home.
In both bathrooms you will find beautiful materials including wood, tile and upgraded finishings.
This home is in the back of a private residence and the driveway is shared. The primary residence owners use the garage and this guest home is located above the garage. Stairs are required. This private guest house is located on a sloping hill in a quiet neighborhood of Carlsbad, California where you will have sweeping ocean views from each bedroom and the large private balcony. The guest home has a single garage for guests use below with a private laundry room included, and plenty of additional parking space, as well as access to an EV charger.
The space
This 2 bedroom/1 bath guesthouse has ocean views from both bedrooms and from a large outdoor balcony. There is also an outdoor dining table on the patio where you can enjoy the view while you eat.
The home is entered by an outdoor staircase next to the garage.
Inside you will find a living room with a sofa that pulls out into a full-size bed, a TV, dinette, and a fully-stocked kitchen with bar stools. The kitchen has a refrigerator, stove, oven, dishwasher, microwave, and Keurig machine.
Both bedrooms have very comfortable queen-sized beds. The primary bedroom also has a TV.
The garage contains the laundry room with large washer and dryer and has space for one car. It also includes body boards, beach chairs and a cooler.
There is also plenty of parking around the property and you have access to an EV charger.
The home is located only a mile from the Carlsbad beaches and Carlsbad Village by the Sea with its popular shopping and restaurants.
Legoland is very close, and it is within driving distance to the San Diego Wild Animal Park, Sea World, and other attractions.

The space
This is a tropical paradise filled with large birds of paradise trees. There is a nutcracker for enjoying the macadamia nuts.
On a clear night, you can identify and count the stars.
Guest access
Enter the gated property and your very own clicker and key await you. Lots of parking is available to the left of the courtyard. Pass by the 100-year-old cork oak tree which leads you to the entrance of your cottage. At the rear of your cottage is a large deck leading you to a grassy area under the macadamia trees and lighted tropical foliage. There is a laundry room available to the right of your rear entrance. Enjoy.
