There is no place better to settle into snow-tinged winter coziness as we head into the winter season :)
Welcome to your private woodland retreat surrounded by nature, with equal access to four of the area's most famous and beautiful natural gorges-a different kind of beautiful in winter.
Resting on a wooded hilltop surrounded by one of the largest protected forests in the region, this lovingly refinished log cabin offers the perfect blend of seclusion and convenience. Located in the heart of the Finger Lakes, you’ll be just a short drive from the vibrant towns of Ithaca and Watkins Glen, known for their wineries, dining, lakes, waterfalls, and cultural attractions.
The Full Log Cabin Experience:
Step inside and feel instantly at home. An open-concept interior highlights the classic and traditional log cabin structure with its large wooden beams. An attractive glass-fronted wood stove perches on a mason-built local-stone hearth. Large windows frame tranquil forest views. The fully equipped kitchen with full-sized refrigerator, microwave, and dual fuel range has everything you need to prepare gourmet meals, and the dining room table is roomy enough for enjoying those meals—or a board game—with loved ones. The bathroom features a charming clawfoot tub for showering…or soaking. Two queen beds in the roomy loft comfortably sleep four people, and custom-fitted “sleep kits” for the sofas allow accommodation of up to two additional sleepers. Curl up and watch a movie with the projector and large (retractable) screen. You’ll find the high-speed Wi-Fi allows you to stay as connected as you desire, but the space is also designed to encourage disconnecting from the digital world and lingering in a different way with your favorite person, or your favorite people, or even a well-behaved furry friend.
Lovely Location:
Step outside to see, hear and feel nature on the big covered porch. Set-up an outdoor meal around the “smoke-less" fire pit. Wander around the salamander-, frog-, and koi-filled pond ringed by tiny native wildflowers. In winter, maybe you’ll catch a glimpse of our neighborhood mink! Put on your hiking boots and head down-slope to meander the private 50-acres, or pick up the Finger Lakes Trail. You could spend countless days exploring the nearly 12,000 acres of State-owned conservation lands surrounding the property. Hike, relax, grill, toast marshmallows and watch the sun set over the wooded hill beyond pond. Listen to the wind in the trees--or the complete silence. Star-gaze. The quiet hilltop location will fill you with peace and tranquility.
Right off the property:
The neighboring seasonal roads are excellent for biking in the summer, and provide some of the best trails around for snowshoeing and x-country skiing in winter
Finger Lakes Trail Access:
Use the cabin as your basecamp for day hikes along this unique long-distance hiking trail system that spans approximately 580 miles through the Finger Lakes region from Allegheny State Park in the west to the Catskill Mountains in the east.
And of course there's the GORGES!:
For hiking, picnicking and swimming, four of the Finger Lakes’ finest State Parks—Watkins Glen, Robert Treman, Buttermilk Falls, and Taughannock Falls—are all within 15 miles (<30 min drive). The cabin has full information on these destinations.
Lakes, Lakes, Lakes:
In summer, nearby Seneca, Cayuga and Cayuta lakes offer ample water-based summer recreation.
And For Everything Else:

Take a swim in Cayuga Lake, but when you’re done, don’t miss the quaint village main street, with its perfect little set of offerings: Sundries gift shop, Gimme Coffee shop, Main Street Market (local and specialty foods), Garrett’s Brewery, and Atlas Bowl (yes, hip bowling with complete bar and kitchen). Or get your dance on at the famous GrassRoots Festival of Music and Dance. Visit the lively Farmer’s Market on Wednesdays all through the summer and fall. INFORMATION FOR GUESTS
(PLEASE READ IF BOOKING)
Cell Service:
The property has limited/spotty cell service.
Please check with your provider to confirm your service quality.
The cabin does have high-speed, fiber-optic WiFi for your use.
Winter Access:
The main road to the cabin is maintained year round, but the elevation means we get more snow locally than the surrounding areas.
All-wheel drive is always advisable and occasionally necessary during the winter months.
Your Furry Friends:
Dog are allowed, conditionally.
Need prior approval and agreement to our pet policy & pet fee (see below).
Wildlife:
More often than not, you won’t see a bit of wildlife besides birds and pond critters.
But we do have lots of wildlife around including fox, coyote, fishers, raccoons, and *** PORCUPINES**
We almost never see these creatures, especially up at the cabin, but downslope from us, in the woods, our camera traps log them routinely, and on a walk in the woods your dog could find one.
Thus on walks into the woods, dog owners are recommended to keep their dog on a leash and if there is a chance they will stray from you.
Critters:
We been complimented on our cleanliness and lack of bugs...
And
We run the tightest ship we can...
And
And, we’ve not had problems with mice in the house,,,
But,,,
We are in the woods. Over the course of your stay you may hear a squirrel on the roof, or a woodpecker exploring the cabin perimeter, or encounter a chatty curious Phoebe nesting nearby.
Insects are perpetually finding their way in in small numbers. We routinely vacuum such intruders away. This will be a non-issue for most guests. However, if bugs really disturb you, a cabin in the woods not be the best choice ; )
Not a Swimming Pond:
The pond is primarily for wildlife and ambience, not for swimming (by people or pets) and definitely not a fishing pond (only goldfish). But there is a little dingy to get out onto it.
Amenities:
- Fully equipped kitchen
- Wood stove for chilly nights

- "Beautiful property that provides the isolation one is looking for to disconnect but with the convenience of a 20min drive to everything you would need. " - "Absolutely loved this cabin! Perfect location. Far enough away for privacy yet only 20-30 minutes from stores and great hiking. Stayed a week and didn't want to leave, felt like home. Property manager was very quick to answer any questions and even kept us updated on approaching bad weather. They even came out the same day to provide us with what we needed to cook on the open fire pit. Highly recommend!!!!! "

- "Good property, nice trails nearby. 1st time doing this alone at this place. Cabins well kept, host very organized and attentive to guests. Little cold but host offered extra blankets if needed. Overall nice place if you want some quiet time outdoors. Coffee/tea readily available. Host not available after 8pm."

This sweet little house has an open floor plan with a sleeping loft and beautiful views looking southwest over Cayuga Lake. Decks on two sides of the house lead to a “flight” of four decks below the house. The kitchen has a small refrigerator, induction burners, small oven, microwave, toaster, blender, coffee maker, and lots of cooking utensils and dishware. The bathroom has a claw-foot tub. On the decks, a gas grill and plenty of chairs and picnic tables for relaxing and entertaining.
Ideal for two, but can sleep four to six: queen mattress in loft, fold-out sofa bed, couch, and camping out in tents on the decks under large shade trees or on the double mattress in the boat house.
Not handicapped accessible: 28 gentle stone steps from the road down to the house, 3 to 6 steps between the decks, steep stairs down to the dock, boat house, and pebble beach, and in the house, a library ladder up to the sleeping loft.
Wifi. No smoking or incense. Pets considered.
- "Communication was great. We had a great time staying here and spent alot of time traveling to Ithaca for restaurants and hiking. The only things I thought were not explained well is that the bed in loft is on the floor, but it was still semi-comfortable. And the other thing is the bathtub..there is no shower but a handheld showerhead so you have to kind of sit down and shower as to not get water everywhere. Otherwise we really enjoyed our stay and those were merely minor things we just werent aware of."

Enjoy our two-bedroom rustic cabin just a few minutes from Cornell University and Ithaca College.
Surrounded by magnificent hemlock trees and nestled on the hillside above Lake Cayuga, the cabin also has a shale beachfront and dock with use of the kayaks, canoe, and boathouse.
You can focus on water sports or use the cabin as a base for exploring the spectacular scenery (the gorgeous gorges are just minutes away), wineries, restaurants, colleges, museums, Watkins Glenn activities and other treasures of the area.
Although you are only minutes from all that Ithaca has to offer (including Wegman's!), the cabin is a world apart: you feel as though you are in a treehouse--surrounded by hemlocks and rhododendren. A walk down the hillside brings you to the shale beachfront and access to Ithaca's most stunning asset: 40-mile long, 600+ feet deep, glacier-formed Lake Cayuga.
A big advantage of the cabin is its location on the lake but in Ithaca. Most Cayuga Lake cabins are 20-35 miles away from the Ithaca attractions.
We live in the large house on the property but your parking, entrance, beachfront, etc are all private, we rarely cross paths with the folks in the cabin. We also rent the main house when we are out of town which can hold 8-10 guests.
Please note that the west shore of the lake in Ithaca is a very steep hillside. So, even though our property is more accessible than some, there are 37 wide railroad tie steps from the cabin parking to the cabin front porch along with a railing.
There are 40 steps from the cabin to the lakeshore.

- "What a perfect venue for our summer getaway! We really enjoyed our stay. The private beach area was a treat. The gas BBQ grill made dinner time fun and we really enjoyed the fire pit off the deck and the big picnic table. I kitchen was well equipped and the beds were comfortable. The washer and dryer were a nice bonus. I would definitely love to stay there again. " - "Totally worth it! Minutes from the heart of Ithaca, beautiful lake front spot. Owners communicate great. The cabin is a little rustic, but you should be outside at the lake or on the Commons!"

No negatives to report!" - "We traveled to Ithaca to drop our daughter off as a freshman at Ithaca College. We stuck around and explored the beautiful town. Due to a high volume of people moving in, we chose to cook in rather than eating out most nights. The kitchen was stocked more than any rental we’ve ever stayed at and the house was very clean and the beds were very comfortable. In addition, the host was very generous to leave us some tasty treats and was very responsive throughout the entire process. I highly recommend this comfortable retreat!"

- "Loved the animals and the eclectic collection of items displayed everywhere. Rustic, bohemian chic without pretense. I would highly recommend this property and regret not bringing my younger kids. The shower drain had hair clumps from previous guests, which I removed. Otherwise, wonderful and memorable." - "We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this dreamy animal-filled oasis. - "A very pleasant getaway. Eshay was helpful and friendly. I had a great balance of privacy, with conveniences (hot shower, fresh water, a knowledgeable host) nearby. Would definitely recommend!" - "The property was beautiful, and nearby many great hiking trails. The host Susan was very nice and helpful when needed. Had a great stay." - "We had a wonderful stay at Camp Earth Connections. As advertised, the Rustic Retreat Cabin was just the basics, a couple of cots, a roof over our head, a fire ring and a small charcoal grill, and a battery lantern. It had no electricity or wifi – if you want modern conveniences, a couple of cottages up near the entrance have lights and a small fridge, etc., and are near the wifi at the main pavilion where the showers are. We preferred being farther into the woods with fewer neighbors (though still just a few minutes’ walk). Susan, the hostess, is great and has taken great care with COVID precautions, outfitting all showers, bathrooms, and even the privies with spray bottles of disinfecting solutions. We loved the constant birdsong, the sound of rain on the roof, and the peaceful woods surrounding us. We hope to return soon!"

- "Pristine cabines eco friendly with strict rules so we can all enjoy the peace and quiet of the nature. The host was very hospitable and helped us build a fire on the last night! Will be back again!" - "The cabin was clean and quiet. The owner met us at check-in and oriented us to the camp. While one might assume from the listing that there was a bathroom as part of the cabin that was not the case. Clean bathroom facilities (toilets, showers, and sinks) were about a 2-min walk away. The bed was very comfortable, and we slept well. We did not cook or eat on site, as we spent most of our time visiting a relative nearby. WiFi was available and fast by the common area; however, the signal did not reach our cabin. I would suggest bringing some boots, as recent rains made the grassy area very soft. Our stay was very enjoyable."

- "Property is a bit ways from town. Area is extremely peaceful. Cabin has plenty of space and nice open feel. Beforehand, owner was initially responsive however would have liked that to continue during our stay as we did not receive much during our stay. Listing should really mention steep spiral stairs to basement and to upstairs as for our small children needed help for safety as well as one adult who had a bad knee could not do these stairs. Recommend non slip treads for safety. Also recommend a bit of cleaning with a bleach product to jacuzzi and showers. Beds are very comfortable. Kitchen was stocked with basics. Indoor pool is quite large. Hot tub was clean. Lots of hammocks was nice. Closet doors in bed rooms need to be repaired but not a big deal for us. Laundry machine on top floor was convenient. Providing pool towels would be a nice addition. Speed limit in village of Homer changes quickly so watch your speed. No telescope on site.perfect for gathering of large family/group. We found a cd player in pool house. I would recommend bringing your own cds or possibly owner providing some more choices. Or better yet a Bluetooth speaker. Overall very nice place."

Located in rural Ithaca, 12 min south of Ithaca Commons, Tenwood Lodge Family Retreat is perfect for your family reunion or friends gathering. Come home to Tenwood Lodge!
PS: We've been on VRBO since May 2014, but we were listed with a different manager for the past 4 years so you may not see our latest (excellent) reviews.
Built to connect you with nature, the views from inside in multiple common areas or the 6 bedrooms are great--you will likely see deer, wild turkey and lots of other. Sit and relax on the porch in the morning with a cup of locally roasted coffee (our gift to you) or in the afternoon with a glass of locally produced Finger Lakes wine you picked up on the wine trail.
We offer a time away from it all to be with those that matter most: Family, friends, yourself! Family Reunions and Celebrations are our favorite things (no weddings here, but you may stay here as family or friends of the wedding party)
Commencements and holidays are priced higher: Ithaca College and Cornell Commencements offer a special event reason for a family reunion. We have priced Commencements higher--but it's still a value vs hotels (who double and triple their prices) on those weekends.
Enjoy scenic views from lots of windows, a great room, a large dining room and huge gourmet kitchen. Relax with a glass of wine or wake up with a cup of coffee on one of three sitting decks. Whitetail deer, wild turkey, rabbits and chipmunks are likely to wander through our property while you are here. Coyotes often serenade us at night.
Three of the six bedrooms have gorgeous vaulted knotty pine ceilings which match the great room (Trophy Room). Another one, the Master Bedroom Suite, has a lovely ensuite bathroom featuring a Sanijet (tm) spa tub for two.
Brace yourself, the owner has a collection of lovely taxidermy in the Trophy Room. Also there is only one TV in the main living space, a Roku TV with a DVD player available. Cell service (Verizon/AT&T) should work fine here, unlimited wifi internet is available.
Tenwood Lodge has 6 Bedrooms and 3 full and 2 half baths. Three of the bedrooms have one Queen bed, another has a combination of King and bunked twins so younger ones can sleep near parents or cousins can have a continuous slumber party. Attached to the main house, the Bunkhouse wing has the 5th and 6th bedrooms - 1 with King Bed, other with 2 twins and a lofted full size bed. The Bunkhouse includes 1 Full Bath and a first floor family room/den equipped with a Queen futon a desk and a table for puzzles, crafts, etc.
Our Vacation Rental is great for family gatherings and reunions, retreats, families in town attending weddings, and college commencements and reunions, we've had all of them! (Please note: we are not a wedding venue, but can recommend several or be a homey base camp for attending area weddings, either as guests or family of the couple.)
Tenwood Lodge has been making memories with Vrbo guests since May 2014.
- "All was as advertised, great for large groups" - "Family.of 16 stayed here with toddlers, teenagers, and several adults. Place was clean and well stocked, communication was timely and helpful, and overall a great experience." - "The hosts were welcoming & clear with advice on enjoying our stay. The house/property is beautifully appointed for chefs, loafers, & outdoorsmen alike. Close to hiking & waterfall viewing. Close to downtown Ithaca for shopping & dining. Thanks for sharing your beautiful home with us!"

Welcome to our beautiful three bedroom, two bathroom cape-cod style cabin! Whether you’re here to visit the wineries, go hiking in the gorges, visit your student in the nearby schools, explore downtown Ithaca, or just get away, our cabin has everything you'll need! It's conveniently located - right between Seneca and Cayuga Lakes and just 10 minutes away from downtown Ithaca. The cabin is perfect for a family trip, a couples weekend, or a best friends’ getaway!
The space
The home sits at the top of a hill on five beautiful acres of land. The entire house and yard is available to our guests, including plenty of parking space.
The inside is cozy and inviting with lots to do! Watch movies on our large screen Smart TV, enjoy some board games, or just lounge in front of the fireplace. The kitchen was recently updated, with new appliances. We also have basic cooking supplies, dinnerware and silverware, and teas and coffees. We also recently updated our heating and air conditioning system.
The cabin can comfortably sleep six and can accommodate up to seven. Two bedrooms are located on the first floor, one with a queen bed and the other with a full size. Both have ample closet space and full length mirrors if you’re planning to make a longer trip. The bathroom on the first floor has a washer and dryer.
Upstairs, in the loft space, you’ll find the third bedroom, with a queen sized bedroom and lots of closet space. The loft also has an adorable reading nook, as well as a desk and working space, perfect for your work from home (away from home) needs! A seventh guest is welcome to use the couch that folds out to a sleeping space.
The cabin also has an outside area to enjoy as well! You can grill a delicious meal and dine on the patio or head down to the yard and sit around the fire pit. The lighted space is perfect for gathering around the fireplace and spending time outside even after dark! The deck also has an awning to keep shaded and cool during the summer months.
The cabin is located about 10 minutes from downtown Ithaca - find food, bars, museums, and other exciting things to do. The Cayuga Lake Wine trail is just 15 minutes away; Seneca Lake Wine Trail is not far either! There are a number of hikes and beautiful waterfalls minutes away if you’re hoping to spend some time in nature. We’ve compiled a list of places to eat, drink, and visit for our guests!

The space
Enjoy the two bedroom rustic cabin (built in 2009) on our large lakefront property just a few minutes from Cornell University and Ithaca College.
Surrounded by magnificent hemlock trees and nestled on the hillside above Lake Cayuga, the cabin has a shale beachfront and dock with use of the kayaks, canoe, and boathouse.
A short walk down the hillside brings you to the shale beachfront and access to Ithaca's most stunning asset: 40-mile long, 400+ feet deep, glacier-formed Lake Cayuga.
We live in the large house on the property but your parking, entrance, beachfront, etc., is so private, we rarely cross paths with the folks in the cabin. We also rent the main house when we are out of town--it holds 8-10 guests.

guests enjoy off street parking in their own parking area halfway down the driveway on the right. there is a shed for recycling to the right of the parking area and the stairs (35) to the front porch of the cabin start in the upper left side of the parking area.
There are 35 steps from the parking area to the front porch and also 40 steps from the cabin deck to the beach. THIS IS A STEEP HILLSIDE. Though the cabin is more accessible and with less steps than many other properties along this part of the lake, it is not good for anyone with mobility challenges.
