At Grandview on the Bay, we have two pet-friendly cottages that provide the ultimate for relaxation on Mathews County’s Chesapeake Bay VA: the Crab Shack and the Fish House (VRBO Listing 365572 which is our kid-friendly cottage). We’ve spent over a decade designing and renovating our property Grandview to give guests impeccable access to nature, relaxation and privacy. Located in Mathews County, voted one of the coolest small towns in America the Crab Shack has a maximum occupancy of two persons. As this is a shared property, no additional day or overnight guests are permitted (other than those listed in reservation).

Guests of the Crab Shack and the Fish House share the property amenities with each other and us: two tandem kayaks, swimming pool (in season), five hole mini-golf course with patio area, the pier and floating pier for easy launch of kayaks, and reading and lounge chairs throughout the property. Also each cottage has two private adult bikes and a Weber gas grill available for use. As always, we ask guests to be mindful and courteous within shared spaces.

In May 2011, we finished the construction of the luxurious “Shack” complete with king size bedroom and gourmet kitchen. From your roof top deck, enjoy expansive views of the East River. The Crab Shack was designed for comfort and relaxation. The second level of the Shack contains your bedroom with a king size bed as well as a living room area with comfortable sofa to sink into while enjoying the large screen flat panel tv, featuring satellite tv. Cottage has wifi. Bathroom is located on the 1st floor. Love to cook? Master Chef Karla designed the Shack’s gourmet kitchen with cooks in mind. Step outside and you'll find your Weber gas grill to grill up something delicious. Think swings are just for kids or the outdoors? We’re big kids at heart and couldn’t resist adding a swing to the downstairs living area. Hop into the swing and soak in the view, watching the tide roll away. Looking to create your own sunset celebration? Grab a drink and head up to Crow's Nest, our rooftop deck with stunning views of the East River and kick back at our LL Bean bistro table topside or stretch out in the lounge chairs.

What would vacation be without swimming! Refresh yourself at our swimming pool with bar area, double hammock swing, loungers, rocking chairs, dining table. Can’t get enough of the water view then try your hand at good ole fashioned crabbing with chicken legs and strings on the pier or relax in the Adirondack chairs while the crab pots do the work for you. Quiet time abounds as well so relax in one of our reading areas or just kick back and rest in the lounge chairs located throughout the property. Bird watchers love viewing dozens of water fowl and bird species including our resident heron, egret and osprey. Stroll around the pathways and neighborhood and enjoy our wildlife and gardens with coastal landscaping. If you want to try an adventure, take our kayaks for a paddle and our bikes for a spin.

If you want some sand in your toes, we are a short drive from Haven Beach and Bethel Beach in Mathews with great birding, shell gathering, strolling. If you’re looking for a day trip, we are an hour away from Colonial Williamsburg & Busch Gardens, Yorktown and horse racing at Colonial Downs. We are centrally located between Virginia Beach and Washington DC and a mere 90 minutes from Richmond.
