- "We enjoyed our a long weekend in this historic cottage.it is located on a street that we have frequently walked over the past 15 years - we’ve always been curious about this row of homes. We loved all of the antiques and decor. We enjoyed sitting on the shaded screened in porch during the hot days, along with our Boston Terrier and another set of friends. The location is perfect, 1 block from the Main Street and about 1/2 block from the harbor and park.. We received the perfect amount of communication from the owner. We would book with them again."

- "Lovely shore" - "This property is very private and at the head of the creek. Boat traffic is minimal, allowing for peace and solitude at the end of the dock. The property has an outstanding water access/view balance, open space, and woods. If you like to walk, there are easily accessible trails through the woods and a long driveway that brings you to a quiet country road. Walking the woods and road is easy and beautiful. The house itself and the appliances have some age, but everything was in working order. Liv was very responsive, and access to the house was easy. Kayaking takes effort as this creek is tidal, and you must time your entry based on the low tide. It is worth the effort! I highly recommend this to anyone who wants a spacious and convenient place to rejuvenate in nature. It is close enough to St. Michaels to be convenient yet far enough away to be serene. A true oasis! I will be back!"

- "The house was in a perfect location to explore St. Michael’s without ever using our car. It was a charming historic cottage and we would definitely rent it again. We brought our 11 year old golden retriever and she was thrilled to meet all the people in town. Such a dog friendly place. Thank you." - "This was our annual St.Michael’s anniversary trip and it is the first time we stayed at the Melson House and it will definitely NOT be our last time. The location was great, the place was very quaint and comfortable. Very clean as well. The communication was outstanding. We read some things regarding the showers, but it really was not a big deal. We were able to bring our Golden Retriever with us which is one of the reasons we chose the Melson house. Everything worked out perfectly. It was a great value for the price. We hope to be able to return next year."

The extraordinary fully restored historic John Bruff House, located on the Town park and harbor, has magnificent St. Michaels harbor and Miles River water views. Rates vary by season, and whether stay is weeknight or weekend. Stays of a week or longer are discounted, as are "last minute" bookings.
The house was built around 1805 by wheelwright John Bruff who is believed to have constructed the magnificent mantel and paneled wall in the living room. The house was expanded, to include a family room and bedroom above it, and updated (including central HVAC, cable and wifi) in 2006.
The first floor of the original portion of the Bruff House includes a LIVING ROOM with original paneling, a DINING ROOM, and small DEN. To the rear of the kitchen is a screened PORCH facing a large backyard. There is a full bathroom on the first floor.
Up an original staircase (which is narrower and steeper than a modern staircase and which can create a mobility issue for some), on the second floor of the original portion of the Bruff House is a very large MASTER BEDROOM having a king size bed.
The second floor to the rear of the house (accessed via a separate modern code staircase) includes a SECOND BEDROOM with a queen size bed. There is a bathroom with sink and toilet in each bedroom.
- "Great location" - "If you want old world charm, and possibly the best location in St., Michaels, this is where you would want to stay. If you want modern amenities, I would suggest someplace else. But we were here for a memorial and we were very happy with the historical location. Thank you!!" - "We loved our stay here. The house was very nice, especially for it being a much older house. It had everything we needed for our 3 night stay. And we can't say enough how good of a location it is. Right across the small street is a small park located right on the water. Thursday nights they have live music in the park which was a welcome surprise. We just sat in the front yard and enjoyed the show! And after we arrived we didn't use our car once. You could walk to every great spot that St Michaels has to offer, from the museums, restaurants, shops, and everything else."

Come enjoy our charming, fully updated and renovated waterfront cottage located in the Eastern Shore sleepy village of Neavitt. Watch the waterfowl out on the water. Come enjoy the quiet. Come enjoy the beauty of the Chesapeake. Come for a romantic weekend.
Please note, the AI generated VRBO "Explore the Area" in our listing, overstates how far St Michales and Easton are. We are 10 miles from St Michaels and 20 miles from Easton. It takes about 13 minutes to drive to St Michaels, and 30 minutes to Easton.
The space
We continuingly make improvements to our property. Every part of this property has been refreshed, including the landscaping, the complete interior, and the furnishings. You will find the cottage very comfortable with updated central air conditioning and heating. There is a laundry room equipped with a modern washer and dryer. The bathroom is spotlessly clean, updated, and has a beautiful marble tile floor.
Do you have bad knees? Are you a little older and not as nimble as you once were. Well, check out our recently added Yakport boarding device. This makes getting in and out of kayaks very easy and safe. See our photos and check out Yakport on YouTube. Now nearly anyone can get out on the water. Note: The Yakport and kayaks are not available in the off season due to the danger of falling in the cold water and the hypothermia risk.
Should you desire to cook, you will find this cottage completely outfitted with a gourmet kitchen that is fully equipped and a joy to cook in. If you prefer, enjoy cooking on the outdoor grill, propane is included.
The living room has an entertainment center with flat screen smart TV, and a DVD/Blue Ray player. There are some DVDs for your pleasure. The smart TV is set up with Netflix, Amazon Prime, cable, and other streaming apps.
The bedrooms are nicely furnished and have wonderfully comfy beds. Bedroom 1 has a queen bed and a flat screen smart TV. Bedroom 2 has two twin beds, but if requested we can set it up as a king, see photos. It also has a TV with built in DVD player. You will also find movie DVDs, books to read, and brochures to help you check out some of the activities available in our area.
In the fenced back yard, you will find a shed with crabbing supplies, accessories such as life jackets and paddles for the kayaks, stand up paddle boards, and canoe. There are also four bikes and extra chairs for guest use.
Guest access
You will have access to the entire home, the waterfront, and our pier with floating dock.
You will not have access to the attic or garage.
Parking is for two cars, basically one spot in front of the garage, and one other space we will show you on arrival, should you need a second spot. Please no more than two cars on the property.
Other things to note -
Neavitt is a very special place. Our cottage sits in a magical spot overlooking the tranquil waters of Duck Cove and Balls Creek. The estuary contains many species of native birds. Watch the morning sunrises. If you are lucky, you may see a beautiful moonrise over the water on some evenings.
This is the perfect place to sit by the water and enjoy the wildlife. Enjoy a fire in the stone firepit at the water's edge.
For a bit more adventure you can kayak, paddle board, or canoe from our floating dock on Duck Cove heading out onto Balls Creek. These back creeks are some of the same places where watermen have worked the waters of the Chesapeake for generations. There are four kayaks, two stand up paddle boards and a canoe available your enjoyment.
We have four guest bikes and suggest a short bicycle ride to Neavitt boat landing. Check out the Osprey nest there. It's on the navigational marker.
As nice as our property and the Neavitt peninsula is, you'll want take time for a short drive of around ten minutes to St. Michaels. There you will enjoy the towns many charms. Don’t miss the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum. Plan at least half a day at the museum. There you will learn much about the history of the Chesapeake. Enjoy the first-class shopping and dining in town. There are many fine dining options. We are happy to help with recommendations and will message you with these and more information before your arrival.
Be sure to check St. Michales and the Maritime Museum websites for the many festivals, events, boat shows, and car shows that our area has to offer.
If you are planning a visit during the Fourth of July holiday, you will find many of the surrounding towns have fireworks displays. We recommend going to the Maritime Museum. Also note on the fourth of July weekend, It is open in the evening to allow folks to watch the fireworks. Check for dates on their website. The museum's Navy Point is an ideal location to view the show. The fireworks are set off from a barge on the water right in front of Navy Point. Over this holiday weekend you'll have other options as nearby towns also have fireworks displays on staggered nights, such as Oxford, Tilghman Island, Kent Narrows and others.
Another adventure not to be missed is an intriguing drive though some of Maryland’s beautiful Eastern shore to Tilghman Island. Taking about a half hour, you’ll pass farms and country estates on your way. Once on Tilghman, and just a bit past the draw bridge, be sure to eat at our favorite breakfast place called Two If by Sea. We love this special place that will have you feeling like you’ve dropped back to a time now long forgot. It’s staffed by friendly folks that will have you coming back. It is totally charming. Chef Henry’s cooking is amazing. Try the crabby eggs benedict. Be patient, they are often busy, but the food is worth the wait.

- "My husband and I celebrated our wedding anniversary at Duck Cove cottage and were blown away by how perfect it was. Tucked away at the end of a very quiet street in a very quiet neighborhood the cottage had everything we could need. We kayaked, rode bikes, sat by the water and took walks through the beautiful neighborhood. Tim is an excellent host who was very responsive to our questions. He recommended Sail Salina and although it was pricey, it was well-worth the splurge. We went at 7:30 PM and had a beautiful sunset. The cottage is well-equipped and was spotless upon arrival. We would come back for sure! Thank you, Tim!"

Screened in porch for birdwatching, viewing sunset and an evening glass of wine.Well equiped kitchen with two versions of coffee pots and plenty of dishs and utensils. Well conectted flat screen TV with every media source avaiable you could imagine. Was able to sign into my you tube accounts and enjoys shows just as if I were at home.Cell service was avaiable but T mobile would not work here. The supplied wi fi easily allowed to sign in and create uninterupted phone conectivity. If you had an emergency you would need to provide address. We had a small inconvience with VRBO providing wrong door access code and we had to contact property manager but he was very pleasent and only 5 minutes away. An improvement to the property would be a designated parking space so I would be sure I was not damaging any underground utilities with weight of the car. I would book again allot of sites to see and everyone we met was very friendly in the area."
