This lovely historic home was built in 1902 by the Rich Lumber Company when they came to pull lumber from this charming hamlet. This cottage was originally a mill worker boarding house but was converted into a family owned home purchased by John T. Olson who immigrated rom Sweden. The cottage is made out of original hemlock and has two bedrooms, one bath with the original claw foot tub/shower, a cozy family room with a wood pellet stove, a morning room, a large enclosed porch, full kitchen, breakfast bar and dining area. Two kayaks and two bicycles are included with the cottage and are available for your use. The home still has many of the original antique furnishings including the icebox that the Olson family stored their dairy products in to sell to the townspeople of Wanakena. Enjoy your morning coffee in front of the wood pellet stove in the cozy living room or in an Adirondack chair on the large wrap-around, screened-in porch surrounded by the aroma of balsam firs. Walk one block to the quaint village center. Go for a swim or launch the house kayaks at the public beach just 2 blocks away. Walk accross the river on our historic walking bridge which is what brings many people to the Hamlet. Walk to the tennis courts, basketball court or playground which is also set up for Pickle Ball. Take a self-guided walking tour of Wanakena, courtesy of the Wanakena Historical Association and visit our newly opened Wanakena History Center right on 2nd Street! For an old time feel, go to Otto's Abode in town and buy some candy or ice cream. You can also walk into the cooler for a beer. Take advantage of abundant opportunities for hiking, boating, fishing, and exploring, as well as easy day trips to visit the Adirondack Experience museum in Blue Mountain Lake, the Wild Center in Tupper Lake, or the tourist shops in Lake Placid and the High Peaks Region. Be sure to look up at night where it is not uncommon to see the Milky Way. Although this property sleeps 4, we have air mattresses and can sleep 6 people easily. Please note our camp is closed from November - May
- "It's a great location, walking distance to kayak launching, a small store, and a level 2 EV charging station. The cottage is nice and has two nice porches, one of which is glassed in for 3 seasons. We used the supplied kayaks in 3 different days. There is a restaurant close by but no full grocery store. We brought groceries from home." - "Like the rest of the Wanakena-ites Lynn is welcoming, warm without being intrusive, and eager to inform about the wonderful variety of pleasures in such a tiny place. The house is just like the town. Authentic and homey comfort with enough of what we needed and no annoying excesses or showy frills. Our only complaint is we have to wait until next year to sit in the most comfortable chair we have ever sat it. The new Wanakena history museum is across the street. Lyn and the other people in town gave us the feeling we were honorary citizens of Wanskena for a week without any of the responsibilities. Enjoy."

- "This was our second year staying at this property and we love it! Well maintained and fully stocked. " - "Beautiful property which was perfect for our family of six. We especially enjoyed using the kayak and paddle boards and hanging out on the dock to enjoy the peaceful lake." - "Very Nice. Beds were very comfortable, kitchen/dining layout spacious enough for all 6 of us. Bring extra garbage bags. Seating on deck and by the lake was great and enough for all 6 of us. We had a campfire by the lakeside for 2 nights, wonderful! Quiet, peaceful. We used one of the kayaks there, but the others had mud, leaves, etc in them. Be prepared to get some vigorous steps in going up and down the hill. Public boat launch is just down the road. I would stay again if it was sunny and we had the chance to swim in the lake, as it was clean, clear and no seaweed! Wanakena Fire Tower and trail nearby for a short hike. Carry Falls Reservoir also closeby for another paddle. General store in town had everything we needed plus icecream cones."

This is a tranquil spot, located on a 40+ acre private wooded point of land over a quarter mile from the main road, where you can relax and get away from it all.
Summers are fantastic for week-long stays. Autumn is beautiful in the Adirondacks—stay for a long weekend or an entire week. Enjoy our terrace, the lake, the trees, and our inviting fireplace.
The Stone House property features a private dock with a tied-on floating dock, a fireplace, a car park, and a terrace. The Stone House sleeps up to nine—primary bedroom with a queen bed; secondary bedroom with a double bed, bunk beds, and a loft/bed; sleeping porch with a queen and extra-long twin ( Casper and Leesa mattresses)—an en suite full primary bath, and a full hall bath with new tiled shower. Downstairs features a complete renovated kitchen, living room with a large window seat and warming stone fireplace (stocked from a private wood shed just outside the house), and a private, covered terrace overlooking the lake. - "Magical week at The Stone House for this Californian family! Huge thank you to the owners for sharing such a gem on the lake. Clean, cozy and comfortable. Morning and evening swims in the lake, canoeing alongside the loons and a crackling fire every evening—we loved every minute of our stay. Looking forward to returning someday. Highly recommend!" - "We had a great stay at the Stone House. Its on a perfect location on Star Lake. If its a rainy day, the wood fireplace and large bay window are a fantastic way to relax."

The Gatehouse is a former boathouse, converted to a 16' by 24' living space. Built in 1915, it is situated less than 10 feet from the water. A picture window and screen porch overlook a spectacular view of the lake, and a walk out to the end of the dock gives an even grander panorama of our pristine Northern Adirondack lake.
Inside is full housekeeping with a full kitchen setup and dining area. The bathroom is a 3/4 bath with a shower stall and wash basin. Sleeping is for a maximum of 4 people in a sleeping loft. Guests are asked to supply their own linens and towels.
- "Cozy little cottage on cranberry lake. Very quiet and relaxing. We pretty much had the lake to ourselves. Had a great time. It is our second time there" - "Can't beat the views at this cabin! This is our second time staying and we enjoyed our stay just as much as the first. Don communicates great and is available if questions arise. Wish we could have stayed longer but hopefully we can visit another year." - "We had a wonderful stay at the Gatehouse cabin. It’s a quiet, peaceful place and neighborhood to enjoy nature, the stars, a lakeside bonfire, and unwind on the lake(fishing was bass tasting!), hiking (we climbed Mt. Arab and Bear Mountain), and sitting on the dock/in the sunroom taking in the views. We checked out the general store, the thirsty moose, black waters cafe, and raquette river brewing. The cabin had everything we needed and was very cozy."

A Little About Us
Erin Bowman Park and Rachel Bullene Graham are longtime friends from Rochester, NY. During the summers, Rachel’s family graciously invited Erin to her camp on Cranberry Lake and the rest is history. When the opportunity came up for Rachel, Erin and their husbands to purchase the camp next door, we embraced it. We hope our friends, family and guests love it as much as we do. Rachel and Travis live locally in the hamlet of Wanakena (very close to Cranberry Lake). Erin and Jim live in Rochester, NY when they are not in the Adirondacks. Between Jim’s love of fishing and birding and Rachel and Travis’ knowledge of the area, you are in good hands.
- "This house was a great place for unwinding, getting away from it all! Everything was brand new, newly remodeled. Beds were very comfortable and the babbling brook next to the house was awsome....with the window open, it lulled you to sleep! Great view of the lake. Kitchen is well stocked with everything you need. I definitely recommend this property." - "The house was very clean. The kitchen was large and had everything we needed. We fished off the dock and caught sunfish, smallmouth bass, and catfish. We did use the canoe provided, but did not have time to try out the kayaks. The communication with the owner was excellent. They provided a lot of information about the area before we got there. Check in was very easy. My Wife and I would love to stay here again."

- "Very nice and comfortable cabin" - "Lovely clean and modern cabin in the woods. We enjoyed breakfasts on the porch and enjoyed the amenities of the cabin and surrounding area." - "We had a very nice time at Sarita's cabin. There are a lot of great hiking trails in the area and we enjoyed canoing on the Racquette River through a local outfitter. When we got to the cabin one of the beds did not have linens but when we called Sarita she was very attentive and got us the sheets right away. Note that if do not have a truck or boat racks on your car, you will not be able to use the kayaks at the cabin as its located across the street from the lake and close to a mile from the public boat launch. Overall it was a wonderful stay."
