I gave 'location' 4* because I feel technically, the neighbor-house that probably has not had a dime invested in it in 20 years, looks slobby, but, it was fun watching the ground-hog sneak into its foundation and under its concrete steps. I do not feel it is a security or safety threat, but, I am not going to pretend it is a neighborhood of stately homes. The other neighbor has probably not trimmed his shrubbery for 5 years, but, it was not a problem. The remainder of the neighborhood is upbeat and nice. Do not be disturbed by the two neighbors. The neighborhood was not noisy or rowdy at any time while we were there. We enjoyed wandering through it walking our dogs. The family all left contented from a great vacation, thanks!"

- "Southern Illinois is a beautiful area for scenic drives and hiking, wineries and breweries, etc. Havisham carriage house is unique with its history and old thick walls; carefully restored. It is comfortable and functional. We enjoyed the patio and, in cooler weather, the ready to go fire pit would be perfect. A few steps up the sidewalk is the bourbon bar. The bar tender knows her craft! The Bar Bites were excellent. Just be aware of hours of operation for all businesses in the whole area. The toiletries are minimal and very basic so you might pack your preferred items and kleenex. The kitchen is minimally stocked with dishes for 6 people, 1 skillet and one sauce pan if you plan to do any food prep. We enjoyed Midlands, The Brick House Grill, and the 51BBQ in Cobden. And don’t miss brunch at The Iron Whisk. The taco place in Cobden is good and very popular."

We welcome guests to our 1880 Sonora Town Hall Cottage. This building once served as a voting poll for the Sonora Township. It is now a beautiful boutique cottage for overnight guests staying in the Nauvoo area. We are located on a working grain farm 6 miles southeast of Nauvoo. PLEASE NOTE: NO SMOKING or VAPING on the premises. We do have security cameras outside of the town hall building, which provide security and lighting for all guests.

The Sonora Town Hall Cottage offers a outdoors seating area along with a large yard to roam. During Spring, summer and fall, guests will enjoy flower gardens and farm crops. Guests may enjoy spring planting of either field corn or soy beans on our working grain farm. Summer months bring time to watch the crops grow. In the fall, guest may enjoy harvest of the crops and an occasional combine siting. Lavender will be added as an additional crop this spring for guests to enjoy along with other garden crops. Two wineries are available in the Nauvoo area. Baxter’s Vineyard, located in Nauvoo and Press House Winery located 5 minutes from the Sonora Town Hall Cottage. We are located three miles from the Mighty Mississippi River. We are five generational farmers in rural Nauvoo. The town hall was purchased from the Sonora Township in 2003. We then restored the 1880 building and opened in 2005. We love sharing this wonderful piece of history from 1880. This property is perfect for couples, those who are celebrating a special occasion, honeymooners, and those who are wanting all things peace and quiet during their stay. We hope you visit soon!

Home has a well /septic tank. We have a reverse osmosis water filter at kitchen sink and a whole house filter as well. Plus a water softer.

You'll enjoy updated amenities in harmony with a distinctive vintage charm. The common area has an open layout, perfect for socializing. The kitchen and pantry (my favorite room!) are new from top to bottom and are fully stocked with any cooking gadgets you may need. Two bedrooms are joined by a Jack & Jill bathroom. The living room has a sofa that pulls out into full size bed.

Outside:
Jordan and I had fun redesigning the grounds from front to back. Enjoy the front garden from the rocking chair on our wrap around porch. Out back we've added a vegetable and perennial garden for you to take in. Dinner out on the back deck overlooking the garden is highly recommended!

Location:
Our cottage is located in Highland Park, about 25 miles north of Chicago on Lake Michigan. We like to think we have the best of both worlds- being in a quiet residential neighborhood with walking access to numerous amenities right around the corner. We're a quick 5 minute walk to Highwood (the north shore’s restaurant district) and an 8 minute walk to the Metra train that can take you from Chicago to Kenosha and any place in between. We're also right on the North Shore bike path (bring your bikes!). Fort Sheridan is also close by and worth exploring for its interesting history, architecture, and nature trails.

Getting around
On foot:
Many errands can be done on foot. We have some of the best restaurants and watering holes north of Chicago within walking distance. There is also a Walgreens convenience store 2 blocks away.

By car:
Getting around by car is also easy. Parking is readily available almost anywhere you'll visit. You can get to downtown Chicago in 30 minutes in ideal traffic.

Train:
The Metra (our train system) can also conveniently get you to and from various attractions including downtown Chicago (a scenic 45 minute ride), Ravinia music venue, the Chicago Botanic Gardens, Great Lakes Naval Base and many more.

Bike:
Pack your bikes! We're located on the north shore bike trail. Head north on the trail to check out the beautiful Fort Sheridan, Lake Forest, and quaint Lake Bluff. Head south to Ravinia, Chicago Botanic Garden, and numerous other beautiful villages along Lake Michigan. I bike often and will gladly point you to some great hidden gems!

If you're flying into O'hare, we recommend taking an Uber to our cottage. We're about a 30 minute drive from the airport.

Six Flags Great America is also a 25 minute drive away.

- "This place is legit. We had great communication with the host (Daniel) before arrival. He was quick to respond to questions and very helpful. On arrival, it was apparent that they take great pride in their home. The gardens are absolutely beautiful. The front porch was darling and the keyless entry made it super easy to get in. The place is decorated so nicely. The set up is perfect. We used it as a home base for visiting friends and it made it a great place to relax before and after heading out. Comfy beds, nice sheets and towels, and although we brought our pwn pillows, theirs seemed to be good. The back deck is perfect for having some morning coffee or evening drinks. The "Hot Tub" is a dangerous inflatable kiddie pool that malfunctions constantly and nearly electrocuted me. The listing doesn't mention this, but this property is clearly a marketing tool for their weed business and every surface is covered in weed propaganda. They're selling CBD/THC products within the unit which I'm honestly not sure is technically legal in such an unregulated manner even in Illinois. They should probably at least be very clear about restricting occupancy to 21+ w/NO children who might find and eat their weed gummies thinking it's candy."

The space
This ranch home has a fun personality! Find little dinosaur things around in the decor, two rose pink walls, frequent fresh flowers, cozy blankets, and framed photos of two great people (Jeff Goldblum holding a t-rex and Tina Belcher from Bob's Burgers). Clean, open common areas.

Guest access
You have access to the living room, dining area, kitchen (the oven is limited due to storage-not the best option for guests who like cooking), patio, pergola, backyard, deck, porch, laundry room, and foyer/work space of my home during your stay. When the hot tub is out it is for my own personal use only at this time.

During your stay
Texting is always best with questions about the space, stay, area... This is a shared home. You will be staying as a roommate with the owner, Erin, and Roam (dog). Roam has access to sit on the sofa. He does shed. He gets groomed and brushed.

This room is ideal for someone looking to get acclimated to the area with a local or someone who enjoys meeting new people while traveling. I (Erin) do enjoy meeting people and spending time with my guests when they are up for it!

There are places to explore, have day trips, go out to eat, etc. If you have time off and want to go around or get good recommendations on how and where to spend a fun day, just ask!

Communication is key. Let's have fun and make this a great experience!

Other things to note
Tell me what you're looking for! I can help you choose the best restaurants and things to do nearby. Bring a fishing pole and walk to a nearby fishing area. If you need an accommodation that is not listed, or want to request having a visitor, please just ask.

I will be looking at bookings to approve just to make sure I'll be home to prepare the room. I have a very busy and spontaneous schedule. I'd like you to have the best experience possible. I'm also open to long term guests. Currently, I am only booking one of the two furnished spare rooms and may consider booking the second in the future after I've had a few guests! This room is now being used to store items and you may use it to keep your luggage or extra items to make more space for yourself in your room during your stay.

This home is not stocked or ready for someone who likes to do a lot of stove cooking. An air fryer and microwave are available. Since the spaces are open, I like to keep cooking to a minimum. Please consider this prior to booking. The main space ceiling was feeshly painted in May 2025. There are brand new floors throughout the kitchen, livingroom, and hallway as of May 2025. All bedroom and bathroom floors were replaced in April 2022. I am constantly working to keep my house nice and fresh, so please come and enjoy all the hard work and love that has gone into curating this space!

Modern with marble countertops and farmhouse sink. Eat in kitchen with large peninsula with 3 bar stools. Toaster, blender, Keurig with K cups, baking items, all necessary cooking items, plates, glasses, silverware, etc. Microwave and electric range.

Vanity with storage, towel warmer, hair dryer, bathtub and shower combo.

1st Bedroom:
Located on the 2nd floor to the right. Has an attached full bathroom.
