Parking, on the side of building, was very convenient but comes with a cost of $20 p/d. The decor is very impressive and recently renovated. It is not a huge hotel, which makes it feel "homey." During our 6 days stay we met only one other group of 3 guest and they were checking out. (We were told the next week would be very busy.) The suite is equipped with all we needed: kitchenette, fridge, dishwasher, etc., all very condensed. The separate bedroom with two queen size beds is separate from the sitting area/kitchenette area, just down a short hall, just inside the entry door. The ONLY negatives are the new flooring is laminate "snaps, crackles and pops" in certain areas because of poor adhesion and the instructions for using the TV streaming (there are 2 TVs) in the suite and the coffee to water ratio for the Mr. Coffee maker are very lacking."

Overall, first time experience with Sonder properties truly exceeded my family and I’d expectations. All well worth it and would love to use Sonder again for future vacation stays. The 24 hour mark came and went, with no word -- finally at 11 PM the night before arrival I wrote to Expedia and, after a lot of back-and-forth, got the email address for the host, who then responded with the check-in info at 1 AM on the day of our arrival. The message also revealed that we would be on the third floor, with no elevator (actually the 4th floor, you had to go up a flight to get to the first). The website says there is no elevator, but did not indicate what floor we would be on. Since we are octogenarians, we would not have booked the apartment had we known this."

There is few spots of free parking around. This is a share apartment with other people, so is NOT a good option if:

1-You are a light sleeper or sensitive to noises: as you’ll hear everything, even when someone flush the toilet as Chicago houses are not make with concrete. The neighborhood is also noisy. We recommend to bring earplugs.

2-If you are meticulously with cleaning: as even though we clean the place you can expect that other guests you share with could be not as clean as you wish and even though once a day the cleaner cleans if they already left and someone leave something dirty it’s going to remain like that until next day.

3- if you don’t tolerate smells: as you can expect cigarette smell, marihuana smell, strong food smell, body odor smell, animal smell, humidity smell, perfumes, air fresheners, but also you can expect the share bathroom left stinky specially after someone use it and any other kind of smell even in your bedroom because as we have central heat / AC any smell will circulate from the whole house. We don’t allow to cook smelly food and we will warn our guests when they do it and also we don’t allow smoking inside and we will enforce 200$ fine to those who do it, but sometimes you can expect that people won’t read the rules and can break those while we enforce them. You can expect any kind of smell at any share apartment as this.

We have an average WiFi if you need a very fast one you may considerate another option that could guarantee you that.

We can’t be responsible for food left in the fridge specially if is not label it with your bedroom number and name.

We have cameras outside the property and you’ll hear when you go close by them how they say that you are being recorded.

We use firm mattresses in most of our places, but sometimes we have soft mattress too if you have a special requirement for mattress we recommend you book a place that could guarantee the kind of mattress you are expecting to find.

Gunderson Getaway is a cosy one BR apartment with some retro style touches in Berwyn a block from Oak Park. 2nd floor private apartment. Wifi, cable, premium channels. Full kitchen. Queen bed plus sofa & extra single bed available. EASY free street parking right by unit. Quick drive to City. Convenient to both airports, United Center and walk to Fitzgerald’s Club. Near Blue Line, restaurants, groceries, great bakery. NO smoking, candles or glitter! Pets MUST be pre-approved and never left alone.

The space
One bedroom unit with private entrance. Queen bed, sofa (sleeps one/does not open to bed))and an extra single folding bed with thick comfortable mattress is available. When you reserve, please let message me so I know how many sleeping spaces you will need or I will assume that the queen bed will suffice. Thanks!

Guest access
There are many walkable places to get food-(Look at my photos). Parking is always easy. You need to have a guest parking pass in the front windshield passenger side for each day you are here. Enter - 12:00 AM and the next morning’s date, 1300 Gunderson, and your plate number. Pay close attention to parking signs because there is street cleaning Monday, Thursday and Friday from 9-4, different sides of either Gunderson or 13th. Even on those nights there are plenty of parking spots available. Passes are in dresser under the TV.

Other things to note
Occasionally I get remarks in post-stay review that are about things that could have easily addressed when guest was STILL at the apartment. (Please contact me (or any other host you stay with) whenever there is something missing, or if you find something needs attention. If you wait until you check out-it is too late to address an issue. Everyone wants stays to be as comfortable as possible.

Coffee and creamers are in refrigerator. Filters under microwave.

Please note that the fireplace is the upstairs heat! There is whole house heat set at 68 but if you want more, use the FP. Be sure that the lines on the remote are pressed or you have only turned on the light, and not the heat. Do not leave it on continuously. Turn off whenever you leave.

Window air conditioning available in summer/fall seasons provides EXTRA air-cooling in unit. Whole house air conditioning used in all hot weather year round but guest does not have access to those controls.

Fire ladder under bed. Bedroom window closest to closet is fire exit.

New parking passes under tv in top drawer. Completely fill out new one for each night, with the next morning’s date.

Please contact me about suitability for children. NOT suited for crawling babies and tiny walking humans.

I have a very friendly older dog but you won’t see him much as we use a different entrance. You will sometimes hear him bark, especially if he hears another dog, or if you arrive late at night.

Two young cats in MY unit. There are times when you might hear them scampering and knocking things over, especially at night! Not invaders! Only energetic kittens. They are not allowed upstairs.

Air purifier in unit. Guest controls it. Leave it on or switch it off.
