Guest Reviews:

- "My husband and I stayed recently at The Nook for a week and we were welcomed by Sara and a little later by Wilson. The cottage is in beautiful surroundings and as a Macclesfield girl, I felt at home. It was all ready for us when we arrived and was very clean. There was everything we needed including milk in the fridge for a lovely cup of tea. The cottage has been renovated in keeping with the surroundings and is charming. We had a comfortable stay. We will definitely visit again in the future and hopefully be able to go for some walks. This stay we didn’t have time as we were visiting family. Thank you to both Sara & Wilson and hopefully see you soon or when Covid permits. Take care Annie & Phil. October 2020 xx"

- "We stayed over Christmas since we have family living close by. The Christmas tree that Gill put up was a welcome sight, & we had full intentions of using the wood burning fireplace but never had the chance. The home was a lovely respite to come back to each evening after our hectic days with family. The morning views are delightful when the clouds lifted. A treat to be in a remote setting with no urban noise & local sheep as the noisy Neighbours!"

- "This is such a beautiful place to stay. So very clean" - "The location and views from the house is just as beautiful as the house, everything is finished to a super high standard. Thank you for a wonderful stay." - "Just returned from a short break at this very impressive property. The owners were warm and welcoming and have thought of everything that you might need, it appears that no expense has been spared. The location is perfect if you enjoy cycling or walking but be warned that it is almost half a mile from the cottage to the main road and its uphill, luckily it is laid with tarmac and provides a nice smooth ride! Also it means in a downhill finish after a hard ride in the peaks. If you want a nice peaceful retreat in a brilliant location then this is it."

Guest Reviews:

- "We loved staying at 4 Washpool Cottages and would definitely come back again. The view out of the back of the cottage was spectacular. We know the area well as we have relatives living nearby but the large number of footpaths in the area meant we explored parts of Rainow and the surrounding area that we had never been to before. Within 5 minutes walk of the cottage you can be out in the middle of nowhere by the babbling brook at the bottom of the field, watching the sun set over White Nancy and the Kerridge Ridge. The cottage was very comfortable. The multi-fuel burner heated the property and the hot water with no trouble (and adequate fuel was provided, along with firelighters and kindling etc). The kitchen was well equipped with all the cooking equipment you could ask for - and the knives were sharp (which is not always the case in holiday accommodation!). Blankets were provided in the living room for use when the room was a little chilly first thing in the morning whilst waiting for the fire to burst into life. Duvets and bedspreads were warm too. Plenty of information provided in the cottage including some useful maps of the local area showing the footpaths. Parking was the only slightly iffy thing, but we didn't experience any problem during the time we were there. The road outside the cottage is a 50mph road and leaving the car outside meant parking it on the road. We did try parking on the grass to tuck the car in a bit but there is a water main running through here so parking on the grass is a definite no no. Thankfully we had brought the old car as we had been moving our son's belongings at Uni. The cottage owners were really helpful moving their car up a bit to allow us to squeeze in behind them over their driveway. We had a bicycle light with us which we displayed in the back window of the car overnight as a warning. I guess the road is used mainly by people who are familiar with the area and know that cars are often parked here. You could always park your car further down in the village and walk back up to the cottage if you needed to."

In a quiet country location but only 5 mins from lots of bars and restaurants and a local small supermarket and 15 mins from major towns. The house was spotlessly clean. Black Cat Cottage in lovely Wildboarclough
Cottage
Cheshire

Lovely stone-built two bedroom cottage in converted barn and piggery, on a 20 acre farm overlooking Shutlingsloe. The farmhouse and cottage were renovated in 2019, but the cottage retains a rustic charm - stone built and with a stone roof, and some barn features. Walks to Shutlingsloe, Grandbach Mill, Lud's Church, the Cat and Fiddle, and Three Shire Head can all be accessed from the farm, as can the local pub and Blaze Farm for ice cream (challenging walks, includes some walking on road).

The space
The cottage has a living room, kitchen (with dining space), one main bedroom and a small second bedroom, and a bathroom. The bedrooms and bathroom are in an old piggery, and there is reduced ceiling heights in all three rooms. The cottage is right next to the farmhouse; both are accessible from the farmyard, where parking is available. The farmyard is accessed via a track up from the Buxton Road. This track is steep and narrow, with a sharp turning. In snowy or icy conditions, a 4x4 will definitely be needed.

Pets are not allowed in the cottage. However, I have two large and friendly dogs and a cat. Please be aware that the dogs like to play in the garden and may well want to say hello to you.

There is little/no phone signal in the cottage. The WiFi is via 4g mobile and gets about 3bps, and can sometimes be erratic.

Guest access
Guests will have sole access to the cottage. There is a small outside dining area that guests may also use which has great morning light (close to a greenhouse and access to fields).

Other things to note
I have two dogs. Ten year old Hector, and two year old Hera. Both are Golden Retrievers, and are very people-orientated. Hera is very energetic.
