Our Wakulla Springs Retreat is located on 5 secluded acres of hardwood trees off the beaten track but close to the Tallahassee-St. Marks Historic Railroad State Trail (15 miles of a beautiful paved bicycle corridor), Wakulla Springs State Park, the St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge, the Apalachicola National Forest, the San Marcos de Apalache Historic State Park in the town of St. Marks at the confluence of the beautiful St. Marks and Wakulla rivers, the Felburn Foundation Playground with covered picnic tables and a fabulous array of playground equipment. There are several excellent seafood restaurants close by so you don’t have to spend your time cooking. Only 3 miles from the Retreat is Savannah’s (home of the famous $2.00 breakfast and a great country buffet at lunch and dinner).

The fenced backyard is a perfect place for approved pets and the bike trail provides a great place to take your pet on a leisurely shaded stroll. Before we approve your pet, we must know your pet's breed, age and size and if he/she will be on good behavior if you have to leave him/her alone in the Retreat? A pet fee of $25 will be charged upon approval. Our concern is that your pet is safe and so is our Retreat.

There are many recreational opportunities abundantly throughout Florida's Forgotten Coast, known as the 'sportsman's paradise', including Salt & Freshwater fishing, hiking, bicycling, hunting and canoeing. Also, convenient access to the Gulf of Mexico is just minutes away in St. Marks.

No matter what your taste may be, whether it's flats fishing for trout, redfish, tarpon, or Spanish mackerel, or just a few miles out some of the finest grouper fishing in the Gulf of mexico, this is truly an angler's paradise, with every salt water activity you care to do, such as snorkeling for scallops, scuba diving to see some of the most beautiful natural reefs, or just a lazy day with the family at the coast.

We have plenty of room for boaters to bring their boats to the Retreat. There are several public and private boat ramps within 15 minutes of the Retreat, giving you access to the Gulf of Mexico and local rivers.

Downtown Tallahassee and Florida State University are only 15 miles from the Retreat and Wakulla Springs State Park (home of one of the largest and deepest freshwater springs in the world) is only 6 miles from the Retreat.

Captain Mike McNamara in the town of St. Marks will provide a comprehensive boat tour of the St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge. From his boat, we were able to photograph many birds, most notably, the Bald Eagle, both perched and in flight. Porpoises visited and followed the boat. Mike is also a fishing guide.

The space
River Rise Cottage is set up to offer a relaxing and enjoyable experience to make lasting memories. The cottage has large windows with outstanding river views and a walk around deck that you can fish from. Should it rain, you can enjoy the sound of the rain on the metal roof. Several feet from the cottage is a screened porch overlooking the scenic river, with plenty of comfortable seating and a daybed... should you want to nap. From this location It's not uncommon to see wildlife. A wonderful place to enjoy your morning coffee or unwind in the evening bug free. Take a swing on the open porch, sit riverside at either our propane fire pit or have a campfire (firewood provided) which is also along the river nestled in the woods. We encourage guests to use the outdoor seating areas for the ultimate relaxation experience and to find your favorite spot! Bar-B-Q with our easy-to-use propane grill (utensils and grill pans provided). Our fish station makes cleaning your catch a breeze! Also available a full-size fridge located on the screened porch in addition to the mini fridge in the cottage.

Guest access
Large open deck with ladder access to the floating dock which is perfect for mooring your boat or launching kayaks. Kayaks are available for guest use. Provided are (2) single person (1) fishing single person and (1) two-person tandem kayaks with life vest.
We offer a complimentary shuttle service for the 5-mile downstream Aucilla River to the Gulf of Mexico trip. This can be scheduled after your check-in. Use of the kayaks are at your "own risk" with no host liability.
We encourage guest to enjoy the common areas porches at back of main house. Camp chairs are provided and can be used at the fire pit and along the riverbank.
A public boat ramp is located within 300 yards north of the property and we have ample storage for you boat trailer during your stay.

We gladly accept children with the understanding that all children thirteen and under must be accompanied by an adult at all times outside the cottage due to its proximity over the river and being in a very natural wildlife environment. This is a strict requirement that will be compulsory. This is for the safety of your children while staying at the River Rise Cottage.

We are pet friendly but do require that your pets are not left alone in the cottage. We have different size crates available, and these are provided at no extra charge in the event that you should leave the cottage and choose not to take your fur baby with you. There is a $50 non-refundable pet deposit fee for 1 -2 pets.

- "Cute house. Close to marinas." - "We stay in the Lake Talquin area frequently. This was our first time at this property. It was very clean and smelled nice and fresh. The bed was very soft. If you need a firm bed this is not the place for you. We arrived at at night. It was very dark and raining. There were no lights on and that made it difficult to see the driveway and determine where the entrance door was - not by the driveway. Once we made it inside we could tell it had just been remodeled. It is very nice but only had basic supplies. Considering we were only staying for a weekend it had everything we needed. The driveway is steep but paved so we didn’t have any issues."

Coming in, stay to the right and there is multiple car parking right in front of the 'Cottage'. Access is around back via the small porch and code will be provided prior to check-in.

While the main house on the property is occasionally visited by the owners (you will know ahead of time), the cottage is entirely separate, ensuring your privacy.

Other things to note:
Please do not run air units while you are not there. Given the canopy of trees, the cottage will tend to keep the temperature while away and you can adjust upon return. Do not flush any items down the toilet other than tissue paper. This is the woods so bugs (mosquitos, ticks, spiders, etc.) are prevalent and we try to keep bug spray stocked in the cottage but recommend bringing some as well.

This cozy haven is spacious, well-furnished & highly functional, with every want/need anticipated and provided. Each day you'll wake to the glory and splendor of the Gulf of Mexico right before your eyes and its inhabitants, feathered, gilled and very few else. The Gulf view is on full display on cold days through the large sliding glass doors. On milder days, the sliding glass door opens to a 12' x 12' screened porch with a patio set where morning coffee and breakfast can be savored in the company of the shore birds when the tide is receding or coming in. At high tide, you can sit and watch the mullet jumping, feel the Gulf breeze blowing and listen to the sounds of the birds in conversation, the wind rustling in the palm trees and the water splashing against the rock seawall, only a couple or so feet below you. When you're ready to venture outside, there are hammocks, Adirondack chairs with ottomans, an umbrellaed picnic table, etc. for you to relax in to absorb some vitamin D and the sights and sounds of Dekle Beach. What else is there to do? What do people do when they come to Dekle Beach? Here's what they do:
*Some use our key to the PRIVATE BOAT RAMP, put their boat in the water and go fishing!
*Some use our kayaks and life jackets and explore the Dekle Beach coastline.
*Some drive our golf cart all around Dekle Beach, watching out for children & dogs. (Just a "heads up" the beach dogs love to ride in the golf carts, anyone's golf cart, and will literally stand in the path in hopes of hitchhiking a ride. Please don't run over them. Just say no and slowly drive off.)
*Some set their GPS on Steinhatchee (22 miles), driving through the various beach communities on the way. Upon arriving at Steinhatchee, some go shopping at one of the gift shops and clothing stores, some eat at one of the several good restaurants, like Roy's and some rent a fully equipped boat and go fishing out from the Steinhatchee River. There are MANY great captains with boats you can charter for half or full days.
*Some drive over to Walter B's (4 miles) for breakfast, lunch or dinner.
*Some drive a little further (7 miles) to the Nowhere Grille for lunch or dinner.
*Some drive into Perry to Walmart or Walgreens, or to shop at one of the cute gift shops or clothing stores. There are several good eateries to be recommended, too: Deal's Famous Oyster House (23 miles), Mama's Italian Restaurant (20 miles), The Backdoor Bistro (22miles) and the infamous Johnson's Bakery & Restaurant (22 miles), Casa Grande Mexican Restaurant (22 miles)...to name a few.

Down the two-track driveway, past the view of the nearest neighbors, our three-bedroom cottage awaits. Rest easy on the patio, with its view of the two-acre lake or cross the adjacent foot bridge to the island. Fish for bass and bream, stroll the walking path, paddle around and enjoy the wildlife, or just relax far from the madding crowd.

This slice of paradise sits on 12 acres; our home is across the lake, out of sight and out of mind.

The space
A true cottage i.e. a small, simple, basic quality house, on a lake. Recently updated with new exterior doors, interior paint, light fixtures and all new, good quality, bed frames, mattresses and linens. Very clean, 1,056 sf foot double section manufactured home constructed in 1995 with large concrete patio at the edge of a private, naturally spring fed, small lake with island. Split floorplan, primary bedroom & bath with shower on one side and 2 bedrooms & bath with tub/shower combo on the other.

Groomed walking path surrounds the lake with an island that's accessed from an arched foot bridge.

Fishing is allowed and no license is required since the lake is privately owned. There are several species of Bass and freshwater sunfish (including Bluegill).

Our 12-acre site is comprised of 3 homesites. The Cottage, the Cabin and the main house where Allen & I reside. The cabin & cottage are both available as short-term rentals and each have private septic and share a water well. All of the sites are secluded and none of the homesites are visible to each other, or any other home for that matter :)

There is an elderly, spayed feline that was left behind by the previous owner, who hangs out behind the cottage, that we feed on the back patio. She's an outdoor only kitty, is friendly and fine around dogs.

Twisted Pine borders several thousand acres of undeveloped lands. It's an animal and nature lover's paradise and home to so many of the amazing flora & fauna native to the region. The cottage is nestled in trees such as Magnolia, Cypress, Pine, Oak, Catawba, and Hickory. It's too numerous to name all the wildlife that we've seen but a short list includes armadillo's, opossums, squirrels, raccoons, Cooter and Florida softshell turtles that make the place their permanent home in addition to the abundance of critters we've seen passing through including bobcat, gray fox, black bear, alligators and otters.

Birding at Twisted Pine is INCREDIBLE! Birds attracted to woods, water and meadow can be viewed. A partial list includes owl, hawk, eagle, kite, vulture, egret, anhinga, great blue heron, goose, turkey, wild ducks -including wood ducks, cardinal, bluebird, titmice, jay, chickadee, wren, dove, woodpecker, finch, robin, crow, sparrow, grackle, mockingbird, oriole, painted bunting, hummingbird, towhee....... The Barred Owl calls are unforgettable, and the owls can best be seen at dawn or dusk/early night.

We try to preserve the natural biodiversity of the site overall and we’ve never stocked the lake. We do mow the path around the lake and the meadow a few times a year and we have aerators in the lake to increase oxygen levels and improve the water quality. While we have no structural flood plain issues and we do have a large open meadow between the homesites that slopes down to the lake, please keep in mind we don't have groomed lawns. During times of high precipitation, the lake level can rise, the canal can fill, the access to the bridge may have standing water in front of it and there may be a few areas on the driveway with short-term standing water. The driveway has recently been rebuilt, is in very good condition and has a solid base with no mud so a 2-wheel drive vehicle can easily drive through any short-term standing water on the driveway.

We keep Italian honeybees, domestic ducks and chickens and have various fruit and nut producing trees and shrubs including Meyer lemons, blueberries, mulberries and a very small vineyard as well as vegetable and herb gardens. Our domestic fowl are penned for their safety and located on the other side of the lake.

We enjoy sharing our seasonal bounty and fresh eggs, homemade snacks featuring homegrown or seasonal ingredients will frequently be awaiting your arrival in addition to the staples we keep stocked including premium hot beverages, granola bars, toaster pastries, oatmeal, popcorn etc.

Enjoy this cozy “dog friendly” 2 BR cottage on a quiet residential street in the heart of Monticello’s historic district. This cottage is an easy walk to downtown and is ideal for couples or friends for a relaxed getaway. Well-behaved potty trained dogs ( max 2) are welcome! The cottage has a fenced in yard and is located on a perfect street for dog walking. The cottage front porch is the perfect place to unwind with a cocktail before walking to dinner. The space
The Knotted Oak Cottage was built in the early 1900’s and is filled with charm. This spacious retreat is filled with luxury linens, fluffy towels, Keurig and a Mr. Coffee, a fire pit and two living areas. It also has a back screened in porch. The kitchen is stocked with a microwave, toaster oven, plug in cooking skillet, full sized refrigerator, a cozy dining nook and plenty of plates, cups and cutlery.

The cottage is approximately 30 minutes from either Tallahassee, Florida or Thomasville, Georgia. This cottage has a partial kitchen. There is a regular sized refrigerator, toaster oven, microwave, plug in skillet and a coffee maker. This house is at least 100 years old.

Relax & unwind in this newly built secluded cottage! It is located just 1/4 mile away from an airboat/kayak ramp (Adams Beach) and 3 miles away from Keaton Beach & the public boat ramp. Enjoy the sunset from the upper deck back porch or a short 1/4 mile walk to Adams beach. Bring your boat and enjoy making memories on the water! The upstairs kitchen is equipped with an induction cooktop, all cookware, utensils, dishes, dishwasher, countertop air fryer and crock pot. (There is no microwave.) Gas grill, refrigerator and gas range downstairs. All Propane is provided. We have recently screened in the downstairs common area and added an outdoor kitchenette complete with a gas range, granite countertops and stainless steel sink so enjoying the outdoors is now more comfortable! There is also an outdoor shower to cool off when returning from your beautiful day on the water! All household necessities are also provided such as dish soap, dishwasher pods, baggies, foil, paper towels, etc. We are also excited to announce that we now have fiber optic internet! It is lightning fast, so streaming television and working remotely is now way more convenient! It is one of the most peaceful places to come and reconnect with family and friends!

Welcome to my beautiful newly renovated cottage in a very convenient neighborhood close to Midtown and campus. I have lived here for over 20 years and remodeled before my retirement. I travel as much as possible and rent out my home part time. I call my home Maison de la flaneuse ( home of the wanderer).
