- "This was the nicest VRBO property we’ve ever rented. The location is wonderful, the view stunning, the house warm and inviting. Spotlessly clean with thoughtful touches like fresh flowers in the bathroom, homemade pumpkin bread, coffee and wine to welcome us. The house is equipped with everything we could have ever needed. We visited with another couple to attend a small reunion of dear friends. Our homebase was a friend’s home in Gig Harbor. We would like to go back and spend a lot more time enjoying all the activities available at the house and in Gig Harbor. Thank you!"

- "This rental is just as beautiful as the pictures display. Located on a quiet dead end road, located on the water, makes this a serene stay. The beach theme is perfect. Clean and includes much of what you may need - dishes, coffee maker, tea, linens, towels, and washcloths. The balcony was a favorite for my girls and me, a place for us to relax at the end of the day and to sip coffee in the mornings. Kayaks are available for use on the bay (did not use, but a nice option). Any messages sent to the owners were promptly answered. Check in and check out procedures were clear and easy. Cannot say enough good things! Would definitely stay here again!"

Sunrise Beach House
Our calendar is updated in real-time & our nightly rates are accurately displayed. Simply enter your desired dates and click 'Book Now!'
This waterfront beach house is a great escape. Breathe in the fresh air of the forest to the back of the house and the Puget Sound to the front. Listen to the waves splash onto the shore or the water trickle down the forested hillside. You are sure to love this beach house!
The views are absolutely amazing. You see views from every room: Mt. Rainier, Point Defiance, the south end of Vashon Island, the Vashon-Tacoma ferry route, the Tacoma Narrows Bridge, and Commencement Bay. The home is located on the south end of Colvos Passage, just an easy five-minute drive from Gig Harbor’s downtown and marina. Gig Harbor is a perfectly charming town with several parks and a historic waterfront that includes boutiques, coffee shops, dining, and a marina.
This 1925 beach house has all the charm of a cabin with the comforts of home. Step right out the front door onto the huge deck equipped with chairs, benches, and a barbecue. Relax with a cocktail or book, watch maritime traffic, or keep a lookout for seals, birds, otters, sea lions, and even whales. The stairs from the deck lead directly to the sand and the small rock beach below. At high tide, the water meets the bulkhead below the deck and you feel like you are on a houseboat. At low tide, you are able to walk the beach to collect shells and rocks.
The house is within walking distance from Sunrise Beach Park, which is said to be one of the best shore dives in Puget Sound. The main feature of this site is a 25-foot high rock wall that runs parallel to the shoreline. The top of the wall starts at about 35 fsw with the base at about 60 fsw. The wall is full of cracks, crevices, fissures, and holes which are hiding places for a plethora of curious critters.
There is an open living room, dining area, and kitchen which makes it feel spacious and comfortable. One bedroom with a queen bed is in the main house. There is also a queen-size sleeper sofa in the living room that is easy to assemble. The second bedroom, which holds a full-size bed and twin trundle bed, is across the path from the house in the “bunkhouse”. The bunkhouse is tucked directly behind the main house, and too has a water view, however, does not have a bathroom. The bunkhouse is probably not the right place for younger children to sleep without an adult, however, would be comfortable and safe for adults and older children.
Things to Know
High-speed WiFi for remote workers and online students!
Full kitchen (no dishwasher)
Please note that this home requires a short walk from the parking area. The secluded Sunrise Beach neighborhood, which consists of about 20 waterfront homes, was originally only reached by boat/ferry. Today there is a road and path that brings you to the homes. To reach our house you park on the road above and walk on a waterfront pathway about the length of one city block. It is worth the walk!
The bunkhouse does not have a bathroom and is not suitable for younger children to sleep without an adult. However, it is comfortable and safe for adults and older children.
Parking notes: There is free parking available for 2 vehicles.
Damage waiver: The total cost of your reservation for this Property includes a nightly damage waiver fee, plus tax if applicable (the “Damage Waiver”). (A discount may be applied for stays of 28 nights or longer, if permitted.) The Damage Waiver covers you for up to $3,000 of accidental damage to the Property or its contents (such as furniture, fixtures, and appliances) as long as you report the incident to the host prior to checking out. The Damage Waiver fee eliminates the need for a traditional security deposit.
More information can be downloaded from the "Rental Agreement" on the checkout page.
Due to local laws or HOA requirements, guests must be at least 25 years of age to book. Guests under 25 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian for the duration of the reservation.
- "Beautiful. Such an amazing place right on the edge of the ocean. You feel as if you are in the water. We had a lovely cookout on the deck, saw playful sea otters, porpoise, and tons of birds. Kitchen sink overlooks the water view. Traditional west coast beach house, neighbors were both so kind. It's about two city blocks, from parking to the property, but worth every step!!" - "Feels like we were in a boat rather than a beach corner. We saw whales, seals, deers etc. Definitely worth the visit."

Description
Perfect for families and business travelers. Just over the Tacoma Narrows, a private, large (1,300+ sq. ft. / 121 sq. m.), two-bedroom, one-bath in-law apartment in an amazing midcentury modern house with a full kitchen, large washer/dryer, two desks, high-speed wi-fi (150mbps), two bedrooms with king beds, a living room with a 4K 55" Smart TV, queen sofa bed, and a dining table. Private entrance and plenty of off-street parking. Sleeps a maximum of six people.
The space
My home is a custom midcentury modern house designed by Pacific Northwest architect Alan Liddle—a Frank Lloyd Wright associate. It sits on almost an acre of wooded land in a residential neighborhood adjacent to WA Highway 16 and steps from the Tacoma Narrows Bridge. The suite is over 1,300 sq. ft. in a sunny daylight basement.
The house has central air-conditioning and heat with vents in the suite though there is no thermostat in the suite. I keep the house on the cool side. There are built-in wall heaters in the living room and each bedroom plus extra blankets for chilly nights.
Coffee, tea, and bottled water are available in the kitchen, along with cooking basics—spices and oils.
Guest access
There are steps down from the parking area to the suite.
The guest suite is a large, private, sunny daylight basement apartment consisting of a spacious living/dining room, full kitchen, one bathroom, en-suite oversized washer/dryer, and two bedrooms. The rest of the house is where I live. Feel free to walk around the property. On a clear day, you'll catch an amazing bridge, water and mountain view from the southeast corner of the property.
Guest interaction
The guest suite has a keypad lock so you're able to self check-in. I'll send you an access code a few days before you check in. The code is changed for each guest.
If I'm home when you arrive I'll be happy to meet you, show you the space, and answer any questions. If, while you're here, you need anything at all please don't hesitate to ask.
Neighborhood overview
The neighborhood has easy access to Washington Highway 16 yet is off the beaten path. As you walk around the property and the neighborhood you'll glimpse bridge, Mount Rainier, and water views through towering trees. There's a beautiful waterfront park with beach access at the end of the street and a hidden, wooded park around the corner. Also, we're just minutes by car from downtown Gig Harbor, restaurants, and shops.
About a block away is the pedestrian/bike trail that crosses the Tacoma Narrows Bridge. From the house to the middle of the bridge is a 20-minute walk. It's definitely a must-see with spectacular views.

Getting around
We're not accessible by public transportation so you'll need a car (or taxi, Uber, Lyft).
There's plenty of on-property parking. There is a toll to cross the Tacoma Narrows Bridge leaving Gig Harbor (no toll entering Gig Harbor). It's $6 cash or $7 pay-by-mail. If you're in a rental car, check with the rental company before using pay-by-mail as they might have additional fees. Alternatively, you can buy a Good-To-Go pass, which costs $5 and reduces the toll to $5.
Other things to note
You'll probably hear us move about during the day. Most nights we're in bed and sound asleep before 11 pm and these days whenever I entertain it's usually during afternoon hours.
We are very close to the bridge so you can hear highway traffic when outside, especially during the morning rush hour. Inside the suite is very quiet, almost completely silent.
- "Fantastic 2 bedroom apartment style place. Host was very accommodating. Incredible location for many different activities." - "We loved our stay here. - "This was a very safe, wonderful and convenient basement suite with a wonderful view of Gig Harbor. A short walk down the sidewalk gets you to a host of wonderful restaurants and shops. If you want a great breakfast, try Devoted Kiss (no reservations, but not too long of a wait on a weekday). A nice dinner can be found at Anthony’s Homeport (they DO accept reservations, and I’d recommend making some). Perfect since harbor parking is limited and usually full. The property was meticulously clean and very attractive inside. Thoughtful things like a stocked coffee/tea bar and some instant oatmeal ready on the counter, nice, quality utensils, dishes and cookware. Beds are comfortable with nice bedding, and plenty of fresh, clean towels and other washing amenities. I appreciated the extra pillows and en-suite master bath. Dedicated parking, but be aware that the driveway entrance is a bit narrow and easy to miss. My only complaint, which isn’t a complaint so much as something worth noting, is that the master bedroom seems to be directly below the main living space of the upstairs residents. So muffled noises like their TV, talking, and walking around can be heard. It’s not disruptive, and they aren’t being intentionally loud, but they do seem to be awake/up at all hours. I could hear talking at late hours, after midnight, 4:30am, etc. So again, not a complaint but a minor annoyance that just comes with being on the bottom floor of an occupied residence."

- "Lovely location and accommodation to relax and enjoy the beauty and boat action of the Sound while still being close to downtown" - "An unparalleled view, inside and out. The host is truly gracious. Our daughter loved her stay!!!" - "Wonderful, cozy condo with a beautiful view. Kara is a great & caring host. Highly recommended." - "The view is spectacular and the neighborhood is quiet. Location close to downtown is great too. The host was easy to work with and did an excellent job. This unit is well equipped and the pictures accurately depict the space. The range might qualify as an antique, but it worked great, adding to the charm of the unit. It's hard to find anything to say that's critical about the place, but here goes. The steps down to the unit are easy to manage, but not wheelchair friendly so a person with a disability might want to reconsider."

Our secluded cabin is located directly on the water with panoramic views of the Port of Tacoma, Vashon Island, Point Defiance, and the breathtaking Mount Rainier. This is the ideal spot for nature lovers or anyone who enjoys a nice view while enjoying a cozy day inside.
This cozy one-bed, one-bath cabin includes a full kitchen as well as a small dining and living area and it's hooked up to wifi. There is a TV with a connected Blu-Ray player for a nice night in, or a lovely outdoor space that features plenty of seating and a fire pit a mere few feet away from high tide.
The cabin is only a short walk from our designated guest parking area. Note that the grass is a little uneven and the main access is down a decent-sized hill with stairs, so unfortunately it is not wheelchair accessible or great for people who are unsteady on their feet. You have access to the cabin and the grass area outside. Beach access is a short walk away via the park up the street. Unfortunately, the boat house is not accessible to guests, nor the stairs to the beach alongside it for safety concerns. While the upper property is not part of the listing, we understand you will need to pass through the yard to access the cabin or your car. We only ask that you do not loiter or hang out in the yard to be respectful of the property owners as well as the neighbors who share the open yard.
As mentioned above, nearby is a public park with beach access! Downtown Gig Harbor is also only 10 minutes away and it offers a variety of dining, shopping, and activities for people wanting to get out and explore the town!
My dad and I live on the property above should a problem arise. While we are close by, this is a very private space and we respect your privacy and hope you enjoy the tranquility and beauty of our cabin.
We have a dog that runs around the property. She is a very friendly Australian Shepard who will probably stop to say hi! If you have issues with dogs please be aware of this.
- "The views are stunning and we felt like we were on a boat so close to the water. We enjoyed watching the sea life and a nice walk down the beach. The cabin had everything needed and was comfortable to stay in." - "This place is a little slice of heaven. Perfect place to recharge and relax. At high tide it feels like you’re on a boat. Lots of wildlife to observe. We will be back for sure!" - "Cute cabin on the water! Great view, great host and the scenery was breathtaking! If you're wanting to stay anywhere in the area this is a MUST stay!"

The queen size bed is comfortable with cotton sheets and a light down comforter. Extra blankets are available in the armoire. The high top table is a wonderful place to sit and check email or just gaze out the window at passing pedestrians. There is a small refrigerator/freezer, microwave, and hot water kettle. Filtered bottles of water are available in the refrigerator and ice cubes in the freezer. A single serve Keurig coffee maker is available with Starbucks Pike Place coffee and Tazo Zen tea. It is easy to use and directions are next to the machine. Light snacks are available. The bath offers a walk in shower and single vanity. A pocket door offers privacy from the main room. Towels hang from simple hooks and extra towels are available in the lower drawer of the vanity. The wall TV is equipped with apps like Netflix and Amazon Prime. We do not have cable. Feel free to use your personal log ins. We'll delete them while cleaning up in case you forget to log out.
Guest access
The studio is private and attached to our garage. Guests may also want to sit in the sun in the back yard. Let me know, we have plenty of chairs available.
Other things to note
Being close to downtown is such a convenience! Tides Tavern is just down the street, as is Kettle Fish, Brix 25, and our personal favorite, Millville Pizza.
