We have an air mattress upon request if bunk beds or pull out couch does not sound comfortable. Has small kitchenette in living room. Toaster oven, coffee maker, two burner cooking top. Medium sized refrigerator and microwave. There’s a smart TV and WiFi.
You will The central to beaches, lake Huron coffee shops, ice cream shops, mini bars and restaurants as well as tourist trails and monuments. There’s Iargo Springs and Lumbermans monument. Canoe and motorised scooter rental just a couple hundred feet down the street. You have a privacy fence where you can use the provided portable fire place for cooking or just a cozy evening. There’sa small grille provided with a couple chairs and more upon request.
No smoking, no pets, shoes off at the doors. There will be fees added if these are disobeyed. Sorry but some people actually need to be told to respect other people property🤷🏻‍♂️.

Our family of 4 appreciated the clean and bright house, comfy beds & couches, and thoughtful amenities. Inside we found good books and games, space to hang/store clothes in both bedrooms, 2 box fans, and 2 a/c units. For the outside we found 3 hammocks, 4 camp chairs, an outdoor patio set, 2 rocking chairs, a large table to set up outside, an outdoor propane grill and a charcoal grill with accessories, a fire pit with wood and 3 marshmallow sticks. The house is a short walk/bike ride to the beach. They have 3 bikes and a wagon to borrow as well as floaties, towels, an air pump, a small backpack cooler, and sunscreen. There are plenty of towels and blankets and pillows - save space, leave yours at home. There are also plenty of condiments, spices, silverware, cooking utensils, and dishes... even baggies, tin foil, plastic wrap. Also a microwave, hot water heater for tea-drinkers and a coffee pot, of course, with Caribou coffee and plenty of tea to choose from. The TV is 'smart' so bring your log-ins. Au Gres has an IGA for any food you need and Tawas has a Walmart. Honestly, you could show up with clothes, a little food, and a toothbrush and you'd be all set for some fun at the beach and relaxation at the house."

Lumberman’s Monument, the scenic Au Sable River, and the shores of Lake Huron with the beautiful Oscoda Beach which provides sandy beaches and water that stays shallow for quite a distance for children’s safety, picnic areas with grills, a playground, bathroom facilities, basketball hoops, a skateboard ramp, free movies on the beach, arts and crafts shows in the summer, and a scenic pier are just a quick five minute drive away. The Huron-Manistee National Forests are 9 minutes away for hiking, fishing, horseback riding, picnics, nature and bird-watching, swimming, biking, cross-country skiing, and down hill skiing. Deer and duck hunting in season are popular attraction in the area. Eagle Run Trails runs along the south shore of the Au Sable River where 7 miles of trails are available for vacationers in both the summer and winter months. The Au Sable River Canoe Marathon Race takes place the last weekend of July and is a 120 mile canoe race from Grayling to Oscoda. The YMCA campground Nissokone is on Lake Van Etten and several of our Socrates Place Resort guests have been families whose children are at the camp having fun. Be sure to travel the River Road Scenic Byway where you will discover Foote Dam and Champagne Hill with panoramic river scenery and bald eagles, and interpretative signs in the area to tell you about the natural history of the area, and how the Forest Service protects the habitat of the bald eagle. Take a cruise on the River Queen paddleboat and view swans, bald eagles, mallard ducks, turtles, and geese on the Au Sable River. Visit Wurtsmith Air Base Museum where you will learn the history of the Wurtsmith Air Base (slated to become the new Air Space Rocket Launcher facility), visit the Veterans Memorial, and stop by the Park Rangers Station at the entrance to Wurtsmith where you can get free maps and guides of the area that will show you hiking, biking, swimming, fishing areas, and snowmobile trails, in the National Forests. Visit Largo Springs which features viewing decks and boardwalk paths though the natural springs. Visit the Tawas Point Lighthouse on Tawas Bay on Lake Huron for a tour of the Victorian-era lighthouse, a gift shop, swimming, foot and bike paths through the park, and picnic areas. Visit Newmann Street in Tawas for a day of shopping in unique boutiques, gift shops, speciality shops, candy shops, and restaurants.Tawas City hosts numerous festivals throughout the year including a jazz fest, wine fest, chill cook off, car show, and fishing fest. - "We instantly felt welcomed and right at home, especially when Jim and Joy made a special point of acknowledging our anniversary. The hosts live on the premises, but they are not intrusive. They encouraged us to utilize the property and made themselves available to assist with any need or questions. Parking is very close to the cabin entrance for easy access. We had a private patio to enjoy the view of the lake & the lovely flowers. The towels and linens were very nice, and the kitchen is fully stocked with dishes, cookware, and utensils. There are two dining tables, so my wife had plenty of room to work on crafts projects. They also have a washer/dryer if you need them, as well A/C. We loved watching the ducks, sitting on the pontoon, and building a fire. The amazing Lake Huron beaches are only a 5 min drive and are open to the public. We thoroughly enjoyed Lumberman's Monument dune & trails and Largo Springs. There are quite a few restaurants in Oscoda but be aware that many stores and restaurants aren't open during the middle of the week. It was refreshing not have a long list of check-out tasks, nor threats of fees for every broken rule. Check out was 11am, which makes for a much more pleasant morning than rushing to leave by 10. We will definitely be back!"

The Sanctuary Lodge is located on Silver Creek in Wilber Township, Michigan, just outside of Tawas City/East Tawas. Situated in an idyllic setting on a large pond, with sweeping grounds and surrounding nature. It is the ideal getaway for nature lovers.

The Lodge is a newly converted three-unit building with accommodations from one or two to up to six, depending upon the unit. Each unit is self-contained. All units share a common entrance with separate, dedicated access to each unit. This one, Unit 2, is a large one-room efficiency with kitchenette with two plate stovetop, microwave, mini fridge, hot water kettle, and a separate bathroom with shower.

The lodge is not too far from downtown East Tawas, which has a good selection of restaurants, shopping, and wonderful views of Lake Huron. Other points of interest are Lumberman's Monument and Iargo Springs both of which run along the Au Sable River providing a beautiful scenic backdrop for some great photo opportunities. Tuttle Marsh, which is near by, is a must for any nature lover, bring your camera and binoculars! Our host Sam was very welcoming and responsive and we enjoyed getting to know him, make sure to ask about the history of the property. My wife and I really enjoyed our stay, we felt at home here and look forward to visiting again very soon!"

Step into a bit of local history here - "Merk's Place", as we like to call it. With the completely renovated interior, you might never know the stories this property could tell!

Unbeknownst to us, this Sear’s Kit Home was actually built on land that was originally part of the Merkel Farm (Hill Dale Dairy, it would later be called) - my great, great grandparent's farm. They were some of the first settlers in the Oscoda area and supplied most of the town with dairy, produce, and meat from their farm. The farmhouse still stands about a 1/4 mile south of where Merk's Place is located. Many years ago, my family had sold some of their property to Oscoda Township. Some of the property was then divided to facilitate housing and other developments near downtown. Our house was built in 1942 following the changing of hands. After closing on the property in 2017, my great aunt (a Merkel herself, who spent much of her childhood on the farm) stopped by to see the house and was in shock after realizing where she was....
“Hannah, this used to be one of our pastures” she said.

Having this parcel of land back in the family meant the world to us. How cool, right? Since owning it, we have continued to restore what we could honor its features, and make the space usable for all. We designed renovation around comfort and simplicity. Now this is the perfect place to kick back and unwind - and we would love to share it with you!

Outside you will find a large, stone fire pit, plenty of chairs to sit in while relaxing by the fire, horseshoe pit, and cornhole! Firewood is available upon request. A patio set, umbrella, and grill are available during the warm months as well. Inside the home, well, you’ll find everything you could ever need in a VRBO. From the fully equipped kitchen, with all the small appliances you could need, to an LED makeup mirror, beach towels, and blankets - you name it, it’s probably there!

And the location… you can’t beat for the area. Merk’s Place is within walking distance to the Irish Pub, less than 3/4 mile to Lake Huron, downtown Oscoda, and all it has to offer. Just over a mile to the old Wurtsmith Airforce Base and Van Ettan Lake access. Snowmobile trailheads are right around the corner. Ausable River access is just up the road as well as the Cedar Lake launch/beach access. Lumberman’s monument, Iargo Springs, and Whirlpool (Ausable River Access) is only a few minutes away by car along with the Eagle Run Trail System.

Each bedroom has a brand new, Serta Tempur-Pedic Mattress, luxurious bedding, and room-darkening curtains to ensure quality sleep for our guests. Both bedrooms have closets with ample storage, hangers, and shelves if you need to tuck your belongings away. A Roku TV above the fireplace and high-speed internet/Wi-Fi for those who need to catch up on work or their favorite shows. The natural gas fireplace clicks on with ease if you need to warm up or just want to set the mood. In the dining room, you’ll find our “Coffee Until Cocktails” bar complete with a Keurig, coffee mugs, tea, sweeteners and with all sorts of barware (ps- there are cold beer mugs in the freezer!). The hall closet houses a plethora of towels, bath and beach, and in the bathroom, you’ll find a built-in Bluetooth speaker vent fan for easy listening while getting ready. The Laundry room adjacent to the bathroom is stocked with laundering supplies, an iron and more space to tuck your belongings away.

Watch the sunrise through the bay window in the morning. Take an after-dinner walk to the Irish Pub for a nightcap. Bike to Dairy Queen for ice cream and enjoy it at Oscoda Township beach. Jump on the snowmobile trailheads and have dinner at Desi’s before returning. BBQ in the backyard. Build a serene bonfire. Book a kayaking trip with Oscoda Canoe. There are 4-seasons of adventures here in Oscoda and whether you’re going out or staying in, the possibilities here are endless.

Schmidt's Cove is a super cute studio apartment that comprises the entire top floor of a private home. It has an incredible view of Lake Huron from the apartment and the private balcony! It also includes use of an incredible private lakefront with a gorgeous lakefront deck with beach chairs, outdoor dining, swing, and a gas grill. Also has private bonfire ring on the lake and private gazebo. Provides for a beautifully romantic couple's getaway on Lake Huron! Must see to believe!

INTERACTION WITH GUESTS:

We have a local property manager that lives in the area and is available to address any issues and answer any questions. The property owners themselves are open to chatting if desired, but are also fine with leaving guests alone.

NEIGHBORHOOD:

The home is in a high-end residential district along Lake Huron. Most of the homes in the neighborhood are vacation homes for professional families.

The apartment is only 6.4 miles from wonderful downtown East Tawas! Downtown East Tawas has a great collection of shops, cafes, restaurants, bars, a marina, and a movie theater. During the summer they close down the main street and have live music on Tuesday nights, which is a lot of fun! We would particularly recommend visiting The Village Chocolatier for chocolates and having breakfast at The Lazy Toaster.

The entire area is famous for fishing, boating, kayaking, paddleboarding, hiking, and nature viewing and there are a number of different places in the area for these activities. There are also several places in the area that rent out boats, kayaks, and paddleboards for fun on the water if you don't have your own watercraft.

GUEST ACCESS:

Guests have complete access to the studio apartment and to the entire outdoor grounds of the property. The private home below the studio apartment is off limits to guests though.

SPACE:

The interior of the apartment is comfortable, modern, and updated and features a spectacular view of Lake Huron from the main room! The apartment has a queen-size bed, a sofa bed, and small dining table with chairs, and a modern kitchen. The kitchen has a good supply of cooking and dining utensils, but there is no dishwasher. Note that there is also a propane gas grill and outdoor dining furniture on the private deck on Lake Huron. The apartment has a full bathroom with a walk-in shower.

The apartment features Wi-Fi, streaming television, central air conditioning, and forced air natural gas heating. It does not have a washer and dryer.

TRANSIT:

It is highly recommended that guests have their own means of transportation. There is parking space for 1 or 2 vehicles in the private driveway at the property.

PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING:

1) PRIVACY: The property owners are a retired couple and they live year-round in the house below the apartment. The apartment itself is completely private though. The owners are very friendly and very open to chatting if guests wish to do so, but are also fine with leaving guests alone if they wish to be left alone.

2) WATERCRAFT: No watercraft are included with the rental, but guests are welcome to put in their own canoes, kayaks, and/or paddleboards right at the property. There are also several places in the area that rent out watercraft if guests do not have their own watercraft. Life jackets are not provided and guests utilize the lake at their own risk.

3) PETS: All pets are strictly prohibited.

4) HEATING AND COOLING: The apartment has central air conditioning as well as a forced air gas furnace for heating.

5) ACCESSIBILITY: The apartment is on the third floor of a private home, so it requires walking up 2 flights of stairs. As such, it may not work well for elderly individuals or individuals with small children.

6) NUMBER OF GUESTS: Please note that our pricing is based upon the number of guests, with pricing being higher with each additional guest that is included on the reservation. Please make certain that the correct number of guests is specified on the reservation so that the pricing is correct.

7) EARLY CHECK-IN: Our policy is to allow early check-in on the day of arrival if the property is available for check-in. We will not know until the day before arrival whether or not the property will be available for early check-in or not. You can check with our local property manager the day before arrival or on your arrival day to see if the property will be available for early check-in or not.

8) LATE CHECK-OUT: We maintain a very strict and structured cleaning schedule. As such, late check-outs are strictly prohibited.

It's a studio cabin with 2 beds, a full bathroom, and sleeps 4 adults. It is located in the woods with a trail in the backyard that leads to the river. The backyard comes with a picnic table, charcoal grill, and a fire pit. Dog-friendly as well! Perfect for hiking, fishing, kayaking, canoeing, cross-country skiing and exploring nature!

NEIGHBORHOOD:

The cabin is fairly isolated and there are few neighbors in the area. It is pretty deeply buried in a beautiful forest environment with lots of trees and the river nearby. It's truly a great place to get away to nature and the area is great for outdoor sports of all kinds, including hiking, fishing, kayaking, canoeing, and cross-country skiing.

The nearby town of Oscoda is a cute little northern MIchigan town with a good supply of shops, bars, restaurants, and coffee shops. It is also on Lake Huron and has some lovely beaches for swimming and sun bathing.

GUEST ACCESS:

Guests have access to the entire property, except for the detached garage, which is locked and used for owner storage.

THE SPACE:

The cabin is pure Northern Michigan in style with a cute, woodsy, and rustic, but very comfortable, interior.

SHARED SPACES: This cottage is part of a shared property. Consequently, the outdoor space and beach are shared with other guests. We anticipate everyone to respect others' enjoyment. Rest assured, the interior of your cottage remains completely private and personal throughout your stay.

BEDDING/TOWELS: Bedding and towels are not included in this rental. Each mattress and the provided pillows are protected with waterproof, zippered covers. Don't forget to pack bed sheets, pillowcases and blankets in addition to bath, beach and hand towels.

BEACH ACCESSIBILITY: You must cross the road to access our private beach. Clear sight-lines allow safe crossing. Guests with small children and the elderly should consider this when booking our place.

CLEANLINESS: We prioritize offering a clean environment for your vacation. Every appliance, surface, and fixture is thoroughly cleaned between stays. However, there are some points to note.

• With the beach comes sand, which we endeavor to remove completely. However, if we miss a few grains, rest assured they've been mopped, sprayed, or wiped clean.

• We make every effort to keep our upholstered furniture and carpets clean. However, due to the nature of rental properties and limited time during our rental season, some stains may not be completely removable. We appreciate your understanding.

HOT WATER: This cottage has a smaller water heater than you may be accustomed to at home. Prolonged or extremely hot showers might be challenging, especially in cold weather. Spacing out showers, dishwashing, and other hot water use usually solves the issue. If this poses a concern, consider booking one of our larger cottages with more substantial water heaters.

COASTAL LIVING CHALLENGES: Our vacation rental homes are located on Lake Huron's shore, close to the Huron National Forest. Given our location and the age of our properties, please be aware of the following.

• Ants and other insects may find their way into the cottage, despite regular pest control efforts. You can help by maintaining food cleanliness and immediately cleaning spills/crumbs.

• Rarely, mice may get past our precautions, especially during cooler weather. It's unlikely but worth considering when deciding to book.

• The location's humidity and higher water table might introduce unfamiliar smells. We assure you, however, that these scents don't indicate mold, and your health is our priority. Every rental is regularly inspected. During especially humid periods, you may find a dehumidifier in your rental.

ACCESSIBILITY: Our cottages are not handicap-accessible. Most doorways are narrow, and some spaces may present obstacles for those with mobility issues. Please review all photos to assess suitability before booking.

PROVIDED ITEMS: To simplify your packing, we supply essentials for your trip, but with certain limitations to stay competitive.

• Sanitary Items: Expect roughly 1 roll of paper towel, 1 roll of toilet paper per bathroom, hand soap, dish soap and 2 trash bags.

This is similar to a studio with a entrance room containing a small table to use as a work space and a comfortable rocking chair. Then entering the living room with a full kitchenette to give you every comfort of a full kitchen just a little smaller scale. This has a smart TV mounted on the wall with Wi-Fi in the house. It has an air conditioner that’s not in there in the winter months. There’s a couch that converts into a full size bed with all your fresh washed bedding beneath it when you pull it out. Then enter the small room with two handmade oak bunk beds and a small closet. Last room is a full bathroom with outdated tile😂 a new toilet and freshly re-lined ceramic old old school bathtub. There is a space saver over the toilet with freshly washed towels and hand towels. Under the kitchen sink are cleaning supplies and extra garbage bags. In the bunk bed room closet you’ll find a broom and dust pan. I keep the cleaning costs extremely low because I want to save you money. But with that liberty provided please leave the guest house in the condition you found it.

When checking out please do the following All of your laundry and bedding please pull out and leave in a pile on the floor. Please do your dishes ( we will put them away after they dry if you didn’t have time to let them dry ) and put all trash in the green container outside by the shared fence. Please leave the last bag of garbage in the garbage can in the house so we can put dirty cleaning supplies inside of it ands well take care of that. Please leave the floor clear of sand, pine needles etc etc. clean up any spills or cooking messes. When you’re in your guest house please don’t try to force open the door in the living room that goes into my workshop. It is locked and you could set off the alarm. I am hardly ever in there and will never disturb your time or your privacy. The door locks from my side as well as yours so you can always feel safe and secure.

North end also has gas station, stores and taverns. Room to park your boat for a fishing getaway. Bring your outdoor chairs to sit by the fire pit. A charcoal grill is available for your use.

Each of our vacation rentals possess distinct traits, and we consider it essential for you to be aware of these prior to your visit. Our goal is to ensure a comfortable and enjoyable experience; understanding these differences from your home can contribute to a great stay.

++SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS++

SHARED SPACES: This cottage is part of a shared property. Consequently, the outdoor space and beach are shared with other guests. We anticipate everyone to respect others' enjoyment. Rest assured, the interior of your cottage remains completely private and personal throughout your stay.

BEDDING/TOWELS: Bedding and towels are not included in this rental. Each mattress and the provided pillows are protected with waterproof, zippered covers. Don't forget to pack bed sheets, pillowcases and blankets in addition to bath, beach and hand towels.

BEACH ACCESSIBILITY: You must cross the road to access our private beach. Clear sight-lines allow safe crossing. Guests with small children and the elderly should consider this when booking our place.

CLEANLINESS: We prioritize offering a clean environment for your vacation. Every appliance, surface, and fixture is thoroughly cleaned between stays. However, there are some points to note.

• With the beach comes sand, which we endeavor to remove completely. However, if we miss a few grains, rest assured they've been mopped, sprayed, or wiped clean.

• We make every effort to keep our upholstered furniture and carpets clean. However, due to the nature of rental properties and limited time during our rental season, some stains may not be completely removable. We appreciate your understanding.

• Please note, these points are not meant to excuse substandard cleaning. If you ever feel our cleaning is insufficient, let us know immediately, and we'll rectify the situation.

HOT WATER: This cottage has a smaller water heater than you may be accustomed to at home. Prolonged or extremely hot showers might be challenging, especially in cold weather. Spacing out showers, dishwashing, and other hot water use usually solves the issue. If this poses a concern, consider booking one of our larger cottages with more substantial water heaters.

COASTAL LIVING CHALLENGES: Our vacation rental homes are located on Lake Huron's shore, close to the Huron National Forest. Given our location and the age of our properties, please be aware of the following.

• Ants and other insects may find their way into the cottage, despite regular pest control efforts. You can help by maintaining food cleanliness and immediately cleaning spills/crumbs.

• Rarely, mice may get past our precautions, especially during cooler weather. It's unlikely but worth considering when deciding to book.

• The location's humidity and higher water table might introduce unfamiliar smells. We assure you, however, that these scents don't indicate mold, and your health is our priority. Every rental is regularly inspected. During especially humid periods, you may find a dehumidifier in your rental.

ACCESSIBILITY: Our cottages are not handicap-accessible. Most doorways are narrow, and some spaces may present obstacles for those with mobility issues. Please review all photos to assess suitability before booking.

PROVIDED ITEMS: To simplify your packing, we supply essentials for your trip, but with certain limitations to stay competitive.

• Sanitary Items: Expect roughly 1 roll of paper towel, 1 roll of toilet paper per bathroom, hand soap, dish soap and 2 trash bags.

• Kitchenware: We provide dinnerware to accommodate the maximum number of guests, plus basic cookware. e.g. at least 1 saucepan, 1 frypan and simple cooking utensils.

After booking, you'll receive a message from us that contains credentials for accessing your reservation page with us. On this page, you'll find helpful info like packing tips, directions, WiFi, your door code and more. You'll also be required to e-Sign a rental agreement with us.

This is a smoke free/pet free property. No large gatherings or parties allowed. Although we are not located on the beach, we are 2 blocks from the lake and 4-7 blocks from the beach. When staying at our place you are a 7 minute drive to Tawas Point State Park, 19 minutes from Lumberman's Monument/National Forest, and 14 minutes from Red Hawk Golf Course. Also a short distance from canoeing, kayaking, bike trails & hiking. Plentiful shops restaurants and bars to enjoy. #STR-010

The space
Our ranch style cottage home is clean, comfortable, spacious & offers ample sleeping space. The listing shows 2 bedrooms with 3 beds. One bedroom has a queen bed, the second bedroom has one queen and one full. There is an additional twin bed set up in the large laundry area for extra sleeping space. There are ceiling fans in the bedrooms as well as a window unit air conditioner in each bedroom (sorry, no central air), large yard, fire pit, bikes, corn hole, grill. Our kitchen has a gas stove, coffee pot, pots and pans, dishes, glassware, toaster, silverware, microwave & refrigerator (no dishwasher). All bedding and towels included. Pets are not allowed at this time.

Other things to note
As is the case with most cottages in the Tawas area there is no central air conditioning. There is a window unit air conditioner in both bedrooms. There are ceiling fans in the bedrooms as well as other fans in the home. We also do get a pretty good lake breeze to enjoy. Because this property is in a residential neighborhood, it is important to be mindful and respectful of neighbors and keep outside noise level to a minimum.
