- "We loved this sweet little place nestled up in the mountains. It was clean, well equipped, and had lovely furnishings. My daughter is at CU and this was a great place to stay while visiting her. Close, but not too close. And enough room to have her and her boyfriend over for dinner. I will look to stay here again! " - "Ideal location near Boulder but driving distance to Rocky Mountain National Park. Cabin was perfectly sized, spotless and had all the amenities required. Extremely peaceful stay and would absolutely recommend. Thanks for having us!"

We invite you to enjoy the inspiring space of our modest, two bedroom mountain cabin nestled in the Rocky Mountains. The cabin is a short scenic drive west of Boulder, Colorado and only two miles from the quaint and colorful mountain town of Nederland, CO. Built in the early 1900's, our house was the baggage depot which serviced the historic, Switzerland Trail Railroad. The cabin sits at approximately 8600 ft is south facing, adorned with a lot of glass, great natural light and is passive solar. It is located off a county dirt road, providing easy winter access, situated in a lovely riparian valley, surrounded by Boulder County Open Space and the Roosevelt National Forest.
We remolded this historic cabin in the late 1990's, but not without first falling in love with the wonderful character and imperfections of this turn of the century structure. We purposely kept what we could, like the original hardwood floor, and took great care to salvage and recycle as much of the original, weathered materials, and then integrated them back into our home. Though 100 years old, our cabin offers the comfort of all the modern amenities, while preserving it's rustic charm in a uniquely, eclectic style. Reclaimed, hand hewn timbers accent the the cabin exterior, the master bedroom, and the one of a kind, rustic, hand poured bathroom. Hammered metal details and homemade doors add a wonderful, hand made touch throughout. Furnishings and decorations artistically blend textures from around the globe, as well as from local artisans, all of which enhance the uniqueness of your stay.
Our cabin is the ideal location for a romantic getaway, as well as a wonderful place to escape the summer heat or the hustle and bustle of the city. Relax and rejuvenate in the magic of our home and the clean Rocky Mountain air. Sit on your front porch while drinking your morning coffee. Soak in the sunshine viewing the native mountain wildflowers and listen to the melodic flowing stream along with the chirping chorus of the ubiquitous hummingbird and the song of the native mountain birds.
For the history buff, the valley in which our cabin sits, is steeped in mining history Our cabin specifically, is the gateway house before entering the New Cardinal historic mill site, which in its heyday, was one of the largest gold mines in the area. Across the road is a cute, well maintained cabin, that was the New Cardinal brothel, in the early 1900's. The remnants of the Switzerland Trail Railroad is only steps from your door, This, historic railroad grade offers a network of hiking, mountain biking and in the winter, cross country skiing trails right out your door. The extensive Nederland mountain biking trail systems are also accessed from your doorstep. Be at the Eldora Ski Resort, which offers downhill skiing, snowboarding and nordic skiing in only 10 minutes.
For the outdoor enthusiast, not only is there hiking, mountain bike riding and cross country skiing out your door, but just a few miles away in Boulder Canyon there is rock climbing, swimming, kayaking and fly fishing. The high alpine peaks of the Indian Peak Wilderness Area are easily accessed and only a short distance away. If you prefer a scenic mountain drive, or a spectacular road bike ride, the Peak to Peak Highway is two miles from our cabin, taking you to Rocky Mountain National Park to the north, or to the casinos of Black Hawk, and Central City to the south. The progressive town of Boulder itself is 17 miles down the canyon road, and offers a large variety of shopping, restaurants and the famous Pearl Street Mall.
- "Our family had a wonderful time in this beautiful cabin! The location is perfect, close to Nederland ‘Ned’ for supplies but tucked away for privacy. It really feels like you have your own mountain. The house is absolutely charming. Every detail was beautifully done and full of historic charm. Roxanne was great with everything! She helped us plan our excursions in the area. We will definitely stay there again." - "This magical mountain cabin is absolutely beautiful! Everything was perfect, and Roxanne is a wonderful host! Seriously, SO BEAUTIFUL ❤️! We loved every second we stayed there and look forward to having the fortune of staying again!"

It was PERFECT for us. It IS a Simple Cabin - with everything you could possibly need for a stay. And Charlie, was the Perfect Host. We only visited with him briefly, but he is considerate and helpful. I genuinely hope we will be able to schedule another wonderful, peaceful time at Charlie's Simple Mountain Cabin. - "The cabin was very nice, it was less than a mile from Wild Basin Entrance to RMNP. TV and internet worked great, kitchen was fully stocked. One warning there are bears in the area and I made the mistake of leaving my car unlocked. A bear rummaged through the car. All was ok and just made for a great story." - "Enjoyed our stay. Very good accommodations and walking distance to Wild Basin Lodge and ver close to Estes Park and RMNP." - "Everything was exactly as described plus the bonus of active/accurate communications from Emily, easy in/out, thoughtful touches for family and just the right distance (20 min) from commercialism of Estes Park with very short distance to Wild Basin either to walk in during "protected" hours or drive over before 9am/after 2pm when passes are not needed. This rustic, bohemian style mountain home, with amazing views of Boulder and Boulder Canyon, is just ten minutes from bustling Pearl Street and downtown Boulder, but feels a million miles away.
If you're looking for more space or want to have a family reunion, we have another guest house on the property. Check it out here: https://www.vrbo.com/2605052?noDates=true
The space:
The cabin is located on 10 acres of pristine private property in the Roosevelt National Forest. With the mountain air blowing through the pines, you'll forget you're only 10 minutes from the city.
An engineer rents the attached walkout basement with a completely separate exterior entrance and no interior access. Extremely quiet and usually only around 3-4 days/week.
Guest access:
There are 2 additional houses on the property and guests are welcome to access every inch of the 10 acres. In addition to the 2 acres of developed land, there are 8 acres of trails surrounding the property, several of which switchback down to Boulder Creek. Guests are encouraged to hike and adventure out directly from the property.
Other things to note
Directions from downtown Boulder:
- Head WEST on Canyon Blvd/CO 119
- LEFT onto Magnolia Dr (also known as Magnolia Rd)
- Our place is just 3/4 of a mile up Magnolia Dr.
You will be staying in the cabin on the right side of the driveway. Parking is just past the first house on the left side of the driveway, next to the canopy carport. You can enter the cabin from either door on the upper level.
The main source of heat is a thermostat-controlled forced air unit. Area heaters are stored in the closets if additional heat is needed. There's also a wood burning fireplace, so we suggest bringing some wood bundles if you want to keep it extra cozy.
During winter, a vehicle with AWD or 4x4 is recommended. If you don't have that, please make sure you have snow chains for your tires.
Have a blast and we look forward to meeting you!

- "This has been our third stay and as always it was great. I could go on and on about how great it is but there is not enough time and space. If you love the mountains as much as I do, you could not ask for a better location and cabin. Kipper and Heather are great hosts and will always help anyway they can." - "This is a comfortable home situated near the southeast corner of Rocky Mountain National Park. It's conveniently located near the less-visited entrances to the Park: Wild Basin and Long's Peak. It's easy enough to get to Estes Park and the Beaver Meadows entrance to the Park as well, and there are spectacular (and often crowded) hikes from that entrance. But the waterfalls accessible from Wild Basin are among the best in the Park. The house has everything you need. We used the outdoor gas grill frequently and made use of the outdoor gas fire ring too. The bedrooms are small, but the beds are firm and comfortable."

- "This was one of our best stays in Colorado. This cute little cabin in the secluded mountains was absolutely amazing! We only left a couple of times because everything you would need or want was right here. We did eat at Rock Creek Tavern (the best pizza ever) twice. The views were awesome, the cabin was so clean and perfectly organized. We saw a bear our first full day, a momma moose and her calf the second and third days, lots of hummingbirds and other birds. The hosts, Debby and Bernie are wonderful people. We really enjoyed getting to know them and learning about the area from them. We loved this place so much we immediately rebooked for a fall trip. We are counting down the days to return. ❤️❤️"

- "We had a great stay at Trappers' Cabin - secluded and cosy as it was, it was the perfect place as our base for day trips to RMNP. The house is a striking wood construction in the old style and we enjoyed seeing a wide range of birds, including hummingbirds. The yard was a little overgrown and with several structures that are off limits for safety but we still found places to sit of an evening. Casey and Michele were quick and easy with their answers to our questions and even went out of their way to post us back an item we forgot after our stay. Thanks for having us!"

- "First off, we had a great time! The place had almost everything we needed and the outdoor amenities were lovely - we especially enjoyed the chairs and hammock by the creek. The owners were great with communication and helpful throughout our stay, and even had a pack 'n play set up for us on our arrival. One thing to know: The floor slopes subtly toward the back of the building, from about the middle of the living room on back. This is probably not really a big deal for most people, but I have issues with vertigo so it really messed with me. The rest of my family was absolutely fine. Just something to keep in mind if anyone in your group has problems with balance or vertigo/dizziness."

The night sky is a beautiful display of all the stars! We loved sitting on the balcony in the morning to enjoy the fresh, crisp morning air. There's a river right by the road that we enjoyed sitting by and took walks along the river as well! If possible, come during the day the first time so you see where you are going because it's in a remote place and very dark. We really enjoyed our stay here and would definitely stay again."

It’s incredibly well appointed with quality furniture, kitchen appliances, and amenities. We had a busy trip, and were sad we didn’t have more time to enjoy the house! Great for a family, it has games, books, a game room area off living room, and corn hole boards in the shed. The sound of the river echoing off the stunning rock wall behind the house was relaxing. The property was clean and cozy. It’s about 35 minutes to Estes Park and 15 minutes to Lyons, so there’s plenty to do in a good radius. We would stay here again, without hesitation."

Our expansive 2400 sq ft cabin is built into the hillside next to the Middle St. Vrain River. This former lodge (c. 1920) is historic, but has many modern amenities like fast Wifi, Verizon Cell Extender, Apple TV, etc.. You have your own entry, patio and yard. In late spring, summer and early fall have coffee on the front patio and listen to the roaring river. In the Fall, watch the Aspen trees turn bright colors. In the Winter, watch the snow gently fall while being cozy in front of the fire.
The rustic Riverside Mountain Lodge Retreat is the main level suite in a two suite lodge. The upper level suite is called the Riverside Lodge - Relaxation in a Historic Setting. Each suite has it's own private entrance. You can also book the entire property under the name Riverside Lodge - Upper and Lower Lodge Combined.
The closest small markets by car are in Ferncliff at 12 minutes away and downtown Lyons at 15 minutes away. You can find more amenities in Boulder, Longmont, Estes Park and Nederland each at around 30 minutes away. Boulder and Longmont are your best bets for big box stores, Estes Park and Nederland are smaller mountain towns, but have good sized grocery stores and other amenities.
The lodge is across the street from the river, but you can walk along the river on the road and access the river by the county owned bridges (one bridge is right by the lodge).
Parking - two cars are allowed as there is only two parking spaces for this suite on the property. Please park only on the gravel, on the right side of the concrete pad.
The rooms are side by side and accessed through french doors. There is a king sized bed in one room and a queen and twin sized bed in the other room. The bedrooms are accessed from the living room through custom built barn style sliding door.
The original wood floors and log built frame from 1920 is the part of the rustic charm of the Riverside Mountain Lodge Retreat. There are pictures, throughout the unit, showing how the space was used as a restaurant and gathering space for travelers and the local community. If you are looking for a more updated space though, look no further than the upper suite, named the Riverside Lodge - Relaxation in a Historic Setting.

Old Town Nederland was built in the late 1800's during the Gold Rush. A walk in the neighborhood is a stroll back in time. Old miner's cabins tucked under the pine and aspen trees line the streets. Moose, elk and deer roam the backyards. The Wolf Tongue Mill sits silent while Middle Boulder Creek snakes east from the Continental Divide through town and on to Boulder. Chipeta Park is a perfect spot for relaxing along the river, throwing the disk, or taking a stroll.
This mountain town sits at 8240 ft. elevation.
A bit about me...
I love hosting guests from all around the world! Born and raised on a family farm in Iowa, my adventures led me first to Texas and then on to the mountains. My family loves Colorado. Summers are filled with water sports, biking and gardening and in winter we ski and snowboard. I enjoy anthropology and study mushrooms and medicinal plants. In my free time I travel, dance, and practice yoga. I enjoy sharing our unique mountain culture with visitors from around the world.

There is an American restaurant/ coffee shop less than a block away in a relatively new building and a ski/ bike shop within that compound. The is a fried chicken restaurant, a smokehouse, a saloon w good food and a wood fired pizza restaurant on 1st St., which is on the block behind the cabin. We have a natural food coop on this same street and a large independently grocery store in the shopping center which is very walkable from the cabin. You’ll find reusable shopping bags under the sink in the kitchen to take to buy groceries. Otherwise you have to pay 10 cents per plastic bag.
There is a parking lot outside the sun room and cars do use the driveway around the back of the listing. Rest assured though that by 9:00 pm Nederland shuts down. There are plenty of games, books and art supplies to keep you distracted
All liquid and paper supplies we stock in the cabin as well as supplies we use for cleaning are chemical free.

Escape to the Wildwood Log Cabin, an authentic rustic log cabin experience nestled in a remote mountain town, just minutes from the Wildbasin entrance of Rocky Mountain National Park. With breathtaking views of Mount Meeker from the living room and hot tub, this cozy retreat feels like you’ve stepped into a Christmas movie, where snowy peaks, crackling fires, local wildlife, and starry nights set the perfect scene for your getaway.
The space
The cabin has a wood burning fireplace in the spacious living room, with a large sectional that pulls out into a sofa bed. The sofa faces two large picture windows, where you can catch a glimpse of the mountains through the trees, for a cozy night in watching your favorite movies on the TV. Next to it, is the dining area for your meals, or playing some board games!
KITCHEN & BREAKFAST BAR:
The kitchen is equipped with all the necessities to cook. You will also find a fully stocked breakfast bar that has a toaster, tea kettle, Nespresso machine, ice maker, and microwave. I’ve stocked it with 9 flavored syrups so you can try a new fun latte or coffee every morning.
BEDROOMS:
There are two bedrooms with queen sized beds. Bedroom 1 has a softer mattress, while bedroom 2 has a firmer mattress. There is some clothing storage, and charging stations for each nightstand.
BATHROOM:
The bathroom has a small shower with hot water and shampoo, conditioner, & body wash. (The walls are just 1 layer of wood so please be aware of the lack of privacy when it comes to sound. I do provide a white noise machine/speaker)
PARKING & EVs:
There is an EV outlet for charging your electric vehicle, and 2 parking spots. Please be advised to not leave food or anything that smells like food in your car, especially in the summer, due to wildlife.
CAR RENTALS:
If you are in need of a rental vehicle, I have a 2012 Toyota RAV4 Limited 4WD and a 2022 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid AWD that are available for rent near Denver. Please message me to ask for more information about this.
BACKYARD:
The back patio faces Mount Meeker, where you can relax in the hot tub while enjoying the views. You can hear the water from the small seasonal creeks nearby from spring until fall. There is also a gas fire pit surrounded by seating, & accessories for making s’mores. There is a large picnic table, and a charcoal grill available. At night, you are able to turn off the patio lights for stargazing. It’s nearly impossible to not see a shooting star with the lack of light pollution in the area! I’ve also added a long lead for the pups to safely enjoy the backyard. (There will be a security camera in this area for insurance & liability purposes due to fires & wildlife, but please don’t worry, I don’t have time to watch it 😂)
DOGS:
Up to 4 dogs allowed! There is a pet fee of $50 per dog. After the first dog, the fee gets requested separately. Please make sure your dog is supervised outside at all times.
MOUNTAIN VIEWS:
The cabin faces the Twin Peaks, where Mt. Meeker can be seen from the living room and one of the bedrooms. Mount Meeker sits tall and pretty at 13,916 ft making it nearly a 14er. Long’s Peak is behind this mountain, connected by a ridge. Mt. Meeker is usually combined on the hike of Long’s Peak, which is one of Colorado’s 14ers. Mount Meeker is a top 100 summit, rated class 3 and is Rocky Mountain National Park’s second highest summit, following Long’s Peak at 14,259 ft.
I am working on adding a cold plunge, and a sauna by mid-summer. 😊
