Shepherd's Cottage sits in Glen Nevis, at the start of the Ben Nevis footpath. Fenced within its own garden this stone-built 17th century cottage has good views over Glen Nevis.
The cottage now also has wifi access.
It has a particularly traditional atmosphere including a wood burning stove ( complimentary basket of logs ).
There are two main rooms and a bathroom all with heating. The bedroom has a king-sized double bed, bedside cupboards, a chest of drawers, a wardrobe, two chairs and a radio. The other main room is the sitting room / well equipped kitchen. There is a dining table and two chairs, a settee, coffee table, well stocked bookcase and a television. The bathroom contains a toilet, wash-hand basin and bathtub with shower and a heated towel rail.
Across the drive the old stone barn has been converted into a walkers' bar/restaurant ( Ben Nevis Inn).
There's plenty of walking right from the door of the cottage if you don't want to use your car.
Walk up Ben Nevis; Explore Glen Nevis - along the river; the Lower Falls at Pollduh; Upper Glen Nevis Gorge and Steall Falls; the iron age hill fort site, Dun Deardail, on the hill opposite the cottage - just a few suggestions. We live at the farm house down the hill if you want any information about the area.
One mile from Fort William, Shepherd's Cottage is centrally located for day trips to, for example, the Isle of Skye and the white sandy beaches of Morar.
Take the steam train to Mallaig or a cable car up a mountain.
There are several golf courses close by. Visit the West Highland museum in Fort William or take a boat trip in Loch Linnhe.
We do not accept pets.
- "A lovely, cosy & comfortable cottage with all amenities. Basic provisions like milk & amazing brownies were provided!! Very picturesque location & quiet. You only have the bleeting sheep for company. The Ben Nevis inn is next door for a hearty meal. Amazing hiking, walking & cycling trails all round.. Thanks Scott and Heather, we had an amazing time." - "Very nice cottage in a beautiful place." - "We had a very nice week in this little house. We immediately felt at home. It is well equipped and clean. A good place for two people. A good place to explore the area and not only for people who want to climb the Ben Nevis (we did not). The scenery is stunning. You don't notice the car park in the back of the house, or people visiting the Inn. At night it is very quiet. We did not have the weather to sit outside. If you do, you will hear the airconditioning of the Inn. It is on during the day and evening. The house does not have a washing machine but Heather kindly offer to do any washing at her house. We recommend this place."

Bathroom needs a bit of maintenance but other wise perfect. Take slippers if you have them because the stairs are varnished wood which can be slippery. A perfect experience all round!" - "Rosewood is a very modern, well appointed, comfortable cottage within walking distance or a short drive to the High Street restaurants, cafes, pharmacy etc. The Expedia description mentions a dryer but there wasn't one. - "This property is located perfectly with easy access to Fort William and wonderful views of Ben Nevis. The cottage was clean, nicely designed, and for the most part well equipped. I would remind renters bring all their own toiletries as this cottage doesn't provide any type of cleaners outside of hand soap. Also, if you are a coffee drinker, bring your own french press. We really missed having a nice cup of coffee to accompany our view. The owner stopped by to check on us and was a lovely man. We had no problems and everything went smoothly. One thing that surprised me was having another lodging within 50 yards. I wasn't expecting a group being right below us. Just know that this cottage isn't as isolated as it looks in the pictures. However, that being said, it was still quiet and we had no problem with the neighbors. We would definitely stay here again. "

- "Lovely place, beautifully put together and very comfortable. The facilities are excellent. I’d have loved a cafetière in the kitchen but that’s only because I’m a coffee fiend, otherwise it had everything we needed. The location is fantastic, easy to walk into town and even directly up Ben Nevis. Lovely short walks for the dog around the ‘cow hill loop’ right out the door too. Wonderful hosts, ver helpful and kind, and overall a lovely stay."

Great for fans of the outdoors, families and those wanting a quiet getaway, Rowan Cottage lies in a peaceful hamlet in Torlundy, at the foot of Ben Nevis. Fall asleep to the sound of the River Lundy and wake up to mountain views on clear days.

The space
Rowan Cottage is a spacious yet cosy and quirky holiday home with a garden front and back and a stream/ River (the Lundy) running through the back garden. There are 4 bath/ shower rooms - 2 en suite upstairs, 2 shared down stairs, 3 with electric shower and one with bath and shower which runs from the hot water system (immersion in the utility room- switch to boost if you need additional hot water for this). There is an upstairs sitting room and a downstairs lounge also - both with TV and DVD player. You can access your own netflix or Prime account via the TV.
Guest access
Parking is available for 3 vehicles to the right hand side of the property. Please don't park at the front as this can cause accessissues for our neighbours.
Other things to note
Please note that the main heating is a hot water system warmed by the log burner. There are storage heaters throughout the property to maintain an ambient temperature but we ask you not to adjust the controls on these and be prepared to light a fire on cooler days - it's very effective at warming the house (and hot water) and lovely and cosy to sit by. There are detailed instructions on how to light the fire at the cottage and a fan that needs to be switched on initially (to stop smoke blowing into the room before the fire gets going) and a pump for the central heating in the utility room.
Please refer to the house rules - regrettably we can't allow dogs, or parties, and children must be supervised outside and not allowed into the shed. No bikes, skis or snowboards in the house please. Also please no parking at the front except for loading as this can cause access issues for our neighbours.
We are sure you will have a wonderful stay in this glorious part of the world. Even if it rains there is plenty to do in Fort William and surrounding areas- especially if you have waterproofs! It's also worth checking the forecast for the coast at Mallaig and surrounding areas as it can be completely different there.

Located on the main route through the western highlands, connecting Glencoe to Mallaig, Skye and the small isles, the cottage is on the A82, 10 miles south of Fort William and between the villages of Onich and North Ballachulish. This makes it a very convenient location, but please note the road can be busy sometimes.
Surrounding the cottage are beautiful gardens with an outdoor seating area.
Across the road, steps lead on to a secluded, shingle beach with views eastwards towards Glencoe and westwards towards the Isle of Mull.
There is free Wi-Fi, along with a TV/DVD player and a Bluetooth music system.

Perfect as a base for exploring the Highlands and touring on to Skye and the northern isles, the cottage offers the flexibility of short stays for two or more nights, self-catering.
The cottage sleeps two and we can additionally provide a cot and high chair for wee ones.
Please do not use 'instant book' if you are bringing a dog until you have confirmed with us - one dog is usually welcome at no extra charge but please check with us before booking if you intend to bring a dog, giving details of your dog (age, breed, size, etc). We do not accept large dogs or any puppies under one year old.
We look forward to welcoming you.

Other things to note
PLEASE NOTE:
- Unfortunately, we are unable to accept children <12 at the cottage, due to a couple of potential safety concerns regarding an open fire, a high-rise deck, and also living beside a quarry with regular lorries passing.
If you think your children are mature and this would pose no harm to them, please enquire with us regarding booking and we can accommodate, however this will be entirely at your own risk and Serendipity Cottage takes no liability.
- We have another property we let out next door to the cottage. Both properties are entirely separate and have their own parking and garden private spaces. Please respect each other’s personal space and keep in mind our quiet hours between 11pm-7am.
- We live next door to a quarry, with lorries passing frequently. Operating hours are Mon-Fri 7am-6pm (winter hours are shorter) and the lorries are limited to 10mph.
Please note, our cottage was built in 1960 and so it is an old house. Please do not expect a modern house at Serendipity, as we do not advertise it as being so. We pride ourselves on being a vintage property, with a few quirks and areas needing maintained, which is part of our long-term vision for our space.
