A high-clearance vehicle is NOT required to navigate the 150 yards or so of the road—just drive slowly. However, in extreme winter conditions, all-wheel drive can be necessary. If booking in the winter and you do not have AWD, please let us know so we can provide alternatives and insure your trip goes smoothly.

Top of the Hill is located a little over a mile from the courthouse in downtown Fayetteville, West Virginia. This 2 bedroom, 2 bath cabin features 2 queen size beds and one queen sized sleeper sofa. We also have two twin sized sleeping mats for additional sleeping space in the loft. The cabin will comfortably sleep 6-8 guest. The cabin features hardwood and tile throughout, and a full kitchen. There is a Keurig available to use (K cups not provided). The cabin features a washer and dryer for the use of our guest. Outside there is a large patio, picnic table, charcoal grill, fire ring, and porch for your enjoyment.

The cabin is located across the street from Cantrell Ultimate Rafting’s base camp. With a minimum two night stay at The Top of the Hill Cabin during the 2023 season, Cantrell Rafting will offer cabin guests a $109 Double run on the Lower New River. Double the whitewater with lunch! Ages 10 and up. This super discounted price is available 7 days a week from May-August (not valid in October). During Gauley Season we are offering a Thursday special this year. Cabin rental on Thursday night for $175 plus tax, cleaning fee, and a Friday morning Lower Gauley trip for $99/person (4 person minimum), or Upper Gauley for $119/person.

The cabin can only be accessed with a 4WD vehicle as it is at the top of a very steep driveway. The cabin is conveniently located to many of Fayette County’s recreation opportunities including climbing, hiking, and rafting.

The cabin is about 1.3 miles from the Long Point trail head, a 1.6 mile trail to an amazing overlook of the New River Gorge Bridge.

The Arrowhead bike trails are just under 3 miles from the cabin offering over 12 miles of mountain bike tails.

The New River Gorge Bridge is 2.8 miles from our door.

It is conveniently located in downtown Fayetteville and also only 2 miles from the New River Gorge bridge and welcome center. The owner answered quickly when we needed to contact her and was very friendly. Since it is a newer listing there is some information which would have been helpful to us and for others who stay after us, such as knowing it is located on the second floor and is only accessible by stairs. This was fine for us, but we didnt see that fact anywhere when scheduling and thought of others who may not be able to use the stairs. There is a Roku TV available that we didn't know about. We were not given the wifi username or password. We were fine without it and could have easily contacted her if we absoulutely needed it but we would recommend that information to be available somewhere in the apartment. Once again, we were very pleased with this cozy apartment."

Located just outside of Fayetteville along Gatewood Road, the C&O caboose is a completely renovated steel caboose. The train car has been thoughtfully converted to a tiny house and is located right next to Cantrell Rafting. The caboose has one bedroom with a full size bed, a loft area accessed by a ladder with a twin mattress and a futon in the living room. This cute rental is located across the street from the Top of The Hill cabin, next door to the New York Central Caboose at Cantrell Station, and Cantrell Ultimate Rafting.

The C&O Caboose features a large patio, a covered patio with picnic tables, an outdoor fire ring, and a charcoal grill. The building is used for storage at this time.

- "The C&O caboose was a great space for our family getaway! The weather was beautiful so we spent a lot of time outside. I enjoyed watching lightning bugs and deer from beside the fire pit and we ate most of our meals outside on the patio. My 6 year old LOVED the loft because it was "his" space in the train. It is located 5 minutes from town and also convenient to all sorts of hiking and climbing locations. We recommend Pies & Pints, Freefolk Brewery and The Handle Bar for food/drinks and Cathedral Falls, Endless Wall trail and Fayette Station River Access for exploring."
