This hidden jewel only a block from Taos Plaza is part of a historical hacienda style adobe that once housed nuns working at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. Newly and tastefully renovated, the interior was designed with comfort and convenience in mind, and it features high ceilings, a well appointed kitchen, oak floors, a kiva fireplace, and a cozy living area. An old apple tree and a plum tree stand in a small, grassy courtyard that feels almost Mediterranean in it's serenity. It is located on a quiet one-way street only one block west of the Taos plaza.

4-wheel-drive is recommended to access the property via dirt road. Snow tires are additionally recommended in winter.

The property has a keypad lock that allows you to come and go without having to worry about keys. Each guest is provided a unique code during their stay for enhanced security. Please note that the front door access is shared between this studio and two others. Guests from all three studios have front door access, but only you have access to your private studio.

The interior embodies the Southwest. Saltia tiling, traditional viga beams, and locally inspired art are warm and inviting. High-speed internet, a streaming/casting compatible TV (Hulu, Netflix, Max, Disney+ subscriptions all included), keyless smart locks, espresso machine, kitchenette, private bathroom, and free parking are included. A private balcony features outdoor bistro seating and stunning views of the Rio Hondo River Valley below. The balcony also includes outdoor lighting and offers stunning star gazing from the comfort of an outdoor daybed (available Apr - Oct).

A glass sliding door connects the balcony to the studio and includes a screen door for airflow on cool summer nights. Inside the studio you can relax on a beautiful leather couch in front of the wood-burning fireplace. The queen size memory foam mattress is topped with down pillows and premium sheets.

The kitchenette area has a mini fridge, air fryer, basic dish-ware, coffeemaker, and electric kettle. Coffee and basic spices are supplied. Note that the kitchenette does not include a cooktop, although the tabletop oven/airfryer can be used for some food prep. Please note that there is no AC.

From road 150 headed towards the canyon turn (sharply) left onto road 230. Follow 230 until you see the 'Hacienda del Valdez' sign on your right. This is a dirt road and 4-wheel drive is required. Follow the road up the hill. The condo building is on your right (the 3-tiered building). Park in front of or to the right of the building and follow the middle red staircase to Unit 10. Your studio is one of the three located inside.

Cell service is poor at the property. Please save your door code and WiFi information offline before arriving to ensure smooth check-in. Also please note that there is no AC. You may experience ongoing repairs on the outdoor staircase of the unit. These are conducted by the HOA - please use caution on the stairs.

The space

The studio is perfect for the solo traveller, a couple, or a family with one child. The daybed makes up into a twin bed. The full kitchen is well equipped. The soaring 18 foot ceiling gives the studio a gracious and spacious feeling. The large wrap around deck makes you feel as though you are in a tree house.
We welcome you to relax and enjoy in the studio, under the tall cottonwood trees, by the river.

You will have ample parking, the large deck, and a lovely setting to enjoy. However, it should be noted that there are 15 steps up to the guesthouse, so it's not suitable for those who can't manage steps.
Also, we have a strict "no pets" policy due to allergies.

Our 900 squarefoot apartment is beautiful and spacious. We added it on to our home in 2011. The apartment is separate from the rest of the house, you have your own driveway, deck and entrance. The apartment is attached, only by walls, not doors. Please note it is located on the second floor, above our garage.
The great room is open to the full kitchen that has everything you'll need, pots, pans, dishes, glasses, utensils, dish towels, coffee pot, toaster, blender and dishwasher.
The bedrooms are on either side of the bathroom. One of the bedrooms has a full size bed and a set of bunk beds. The other bedroom has a queen size bed. Basically a room for the kids and a room for the adults. All of the linens, pillows and blankets provided.
The bathroom has a shower/tub combo and single sink vanity. All of the towels are provided. Just bring your personal items, including toiletries.
You have your own, private deck where you can sit outside at a table with chairs or on the glider.
Feel free to play horseshoes or basketball in our back yard. We also have a "club house" and trampoline that our son will share. (I'll ask you to sign a waiver to use all of the fun outside stuff.)
We are a kid friendly property. We do ask that you leave your animals at home as we have 2 dogs that will enjoy your company and 2 outside cats that you may see stalking around, and we wouldn't want any conflicts.
I also own 2 slope side condos right on the hill in Angel Fire, both on the Ski Run Condo Complex. both are studios that sleep 4. Look up 1000702 and 492829.

A glass sliding door connects the balcony to the studio and includes a screen door for airflow in the summer. From road 150 headed towards the canyon turn (sharply) left onto road 230. Follow 230 until you see the 'Hacienda del Valdez' sign on your right. This is a dirt road and 4-wheel drive is required. Follow the road up the hill. The condo building is on your right (the 3-tiered building). Park in front of or to the right of the building and follow the middle red staircase to Unit 10. Your studio is one of the three located inside.

Cell service is poor at the property. Please save your door code and WiFi information offline before arriving to ensure smooth check-in. Also please note that there is no AC. You may experience ongoing repairs on the outdoor staircase of the unit. These are conducted by the HOA - please use caution on the stairs.

Room 9 is upstairs on the West facingside of the property on Prospector Trail.Room 9 is our largest kitchenette room and the only one that has 2 queen size beds. The entryoffers a large living area with a sleeper sofa, arm chair withottoman, and coffee table. The 43" smart TV sits on a cubby shelf with 4 bins to store clothing or other items. The bathroom is roomy with a full tub and removable shower sprayer. The kitchenette is fully equipped with everything you need to prepare and enjoy a home cooked meal. Newly renovated in the spring of 2021, this townhouse is a 3-level property with bedrooms on both the middle and upper levels. This unit will make you feel right at home as the gas fireplace, which is the primary heat for the home, greets you into an inviting living space.

The first floor has tile throughout and has several special amenities. The boot barn area is a great place to store ski, snow, and hiking boots. The top shelf of the boot barn area is perfect for hats, scarves, and gloves, along with a charging station for electronic devices. The living room has a queen sleeper sofa that guests can enjoy, along with a flat-screen Tv and a ceiling fan. Granite countertops, with a breakfast bar extension housing four stools, create an open area for conversation with the chefs. The kitchen is fully equipped for any meals you decide to create during your stay in Red River. The main level also has a half bathroom and washer/dryer for your convenience.

As you make your way up to the second level, you will discover the master bedroom which has a queen bed, flat-screen Tv, private bathroom, and balcony overlooking the fishing ponds. Down the hallway is another bedroom with a queen bed. You will also find a second full bath on this level.

The top-level hosts a third bedroom loft furnished with two sets of bunk beds which have twin-sized mattresses on the top and full-sized beds on the bottom. A flat-screen Tv is easily accessible to connect to your game console or computer.

Amenities include a full-size washer/dryer on the first floor, WiFi, satellite tv via DirectTv, charcoal grill, a fire pit in the courtyard, and a ski closet on the front porch. This property is perfect for remote workers because it has High Speed WiFi! Each Claim Jumper unit has 2 dedicated parking spots. All other vehicles will need to park off the property. - "Our group contained two families, totaling nine people. The kids' ages ranged from 3 to 19 and all were able to have their own bed on the 3rd floor. The property was the perfect location for skiing and walking to restaurants, stores, and the grocery store. The home was clean, the beds were comfortable, and the kitchen and living room were perfect for gathering in the evenings. We also loved all the places to hang our ski clothes in the living room. The loft is a studio apartment that was added on to the original home. It's second-story lighting and views make it a lovely spot for reflection in the early mornings. A wrap-around balcony enhance the outdoor relaxation space.

We have labored to create a welcome and safe space that provides multiple varied housing opportunities on our property. Children from the three families living here will be seen playing outdoors along with their cats. One of the parents is also our artist in residence, and has studio space in the third garage adjacent to the covered parking. Guests who rent the Casita next door will be using the covered parking. Our family lives in the first house with the green roof. The other two families reside in their recreational vehicles in the downhill barn space.

If complete isolation and seclusion is a requisite of your vacation, ours may not be the space for you. You are welcome to enjoy the river overlook, and we ask that you please respect the privacy of the other residents on the property as you pass by to access the river.

The space
The apartment was transformed from my art therapy studio of 23 years. The kitchenette has everything you need to prepare your own meals. There is all new cookware, including a Breville countertop convection oven, Vayepro portable stove top, microwave, electric kettle, coffee maker, blender and other kitchenware placed upon a whimsical tiled counter and two kitchen islands on wheels to accommodate counter overload. The tiles were designed and created by local children in our community who wanted to contribute to their healing space. There is one mini fridge in the kitchenette from times gone by and an additional retro Galanz refrigerator in the mud room to accommodate longer stays.

There is an extra toilet closet in the great room, San Francisco style, ie. only a toilet. A full bathroom with a combination tub and shower is down the hallway with hand made tiles of Southwestern petroglyphs. The bathroom was featured along with my home in New Mexico Magazines, 2004 Home Edition.

The ceilings are graced with traditional vigas and latillas. Thick adobe walls keep the space cool in summer and warm in winter and provide a great sound barrier. The unit is officially heated by radiant heat running under the flagstones and cherry wood floors. There is a private mud room entrance for your shoes, boots, and outdoor clothing. The bedroom looks out on a lush landscaped garden. A walk in closet is in the great room for storing your clothes and luggage.

A Wildflower Retreat is not a big screen hideway but has everything you need to watch a smorgasbord of DVD's on a Boifun Portable DVD player with high-definition TFT LED screen There are lots of books and games and even watercolors for a quiet evening at home after a big day of adventures. High speed internet(50 Mbps) allows you to connect with all your electronic devices and any work you have to maintain while on the road. A desk located in the bedroom allows for a designated work space.

Your private apartment is attached to the main house which houses me, two large dogs and a very fat cat, who do not have access to your domain. You have your own private entrance and the units are separated by an impenetrable turquoise wood door designed and created by local artisan Peter Barlow. You may hear a bark or two as the beasties greet you or maybe a howl to accompany the coyotes in the forest, but it is unlikely that they will disturb you as the thick adobe walls are also quite sound proof. Quiet hours are from 10pm to 7am. There are great hiking trails available for your daily walks and because the mother ditch runs thru the back of my two acres, you will be housed in a most pleasant and beautiful place with lots of trees and greenery.

NEIGHBORHOOD HIGHLIGHTS: Canon Heights is a very quiet neighborhood just outside the town limits with easy access to Taos Plaza which is only two miles away and filled with galleries, museums and fine dining. The Bureau of Land Management Forest lands border the neighborhood with endless trails and views. One can also exit the Forest Service Road(ie Piedmont) and turn left on Kit Carson Road (64) and you are on your way to the Enchanted Circle -a favorite mountainous 84 mile journey delighting drivers and cyclists. The circle connects the towns of Angel Fire, Eagle Nest and Red River and a few other notable attractions bringing you back to Taos, the Pueblo and the Gorge Bridge. You can also access Taos Pueblo by turning right on Kit Carson and heading into town, turning right on Pueblo Sur with the Pueblo entrance less than a mile away. And for you skiers, the infamous Taos Ski Valley is only a half hour away. Rafting, Ballooning and endless outdoor activities await you within a short distance from A Wildflower Retreat.

Guest access
Your private entrance is next to the designated parking spaces. There are two small steps as you ascend the flagstone path to the entry door and one small step up to enter. You will be given a combination to use for entry after your reservation is confirmed.

Please note that in the winter months of snow, you will need a four wheel drive or all wheel drive to traverse Cottontail Road. My Subaru outback has never had any problem accessing the property, but you must drive slowly as you descend the small hill or you may end up in the empty field which is really a drag.

Other things to note
There are several other buildings inside the courtyard gates to my personal entrance. As a semi retired therapist, I open my gates once or twice a week to see my clients in my studio at the very back of the property. There is also an artist working in my old pottery studio. Everyone knows how to enter and leave quietly. If you notice the gates are open, do not enter without my guidance so we can respect the privacy of all.

Although the unit is designed for two, sometimes folks just like to sleep alone and one might leave the very comfortable Queen size bed, with a tempur pedic mattress, for a good nights sleep on the daybed/couch in the Great Room.

RE: the Pet Policy: I would love to welcome your beasties but because I have three of my own, who would love to enthusiastically welcome you too, I have to decline pets to keep the peaceful atmosphere we all desire.

When you leave - put towels and anything wet in the tub. Leave the bed linens on the bed and the housekeeper will take care of them.
