Beyul Retreat took over the historic Diamond J guest ranch outside of Aspen, CO in late 2020 and has transformed the century-old property into a hub of art, live music, wellness & outdoor adventure. Beyul Retreat has already received rave reviews from the Wall Street Journal, Vogue, Denver Post, Houston Chronicle, Yoga+Life, Aspen Times, Aspen Daily News, and more. Our guests choose Beyul for its creative, inspiring, and unique vibe that sets it apart from a traditional guest ranch.
Beyul Retreat is 1 hour from Aspen, CO. The Frying Pan River runs right through our 32 acres of meadows, forest, creeks, waterfalls & ponds, and sculptural art installations, with trails leading right into the White River National Forest. Your restorative experience here will include our mountain onsen with traditional cedar sauna, hot tub, and cold plunge, complementary yoga classes upon request, and perusing curated local art & goods in our Mossy Rock Mercantile. Nearby you'll find incredible hiking; rock climbing at Lime Creek; road & gravel biking; fly fishing on the Gold Medal Frying Pan, and more.
The Frying Pan River remains a wild solitude, traveling through a gorgeous canyon formed from the 250 million-year-old red sandstone Maroon Formation. The retreat is surrounded by the White River National Forest, which creates privacy and access for backcountry skiing, hiking, backpacking, and hunting. It’s 26 miles up from the confluence with the Roaring Fork, just five minutes beyond Ruedi Reservoir, a beautiful 1,100 acre lake where you can enjoy sailing, water skiing, windsurfing, kayaking, and fishing. World-class mountain-biking, climbing, paragliding and skiing are within a short drive.
We share this place with foxes, elk, black bears, hawks, eagles, and trout. Surrounded by the red rock of the river valley, the retreat is nestled in groves of Colorado blue spruce, Aspen and, Douglas fir trees. The extensive property has both welcoming gathering spaces and private corners for solitude. At 8200’, our mountain ecology means changing magic throughout the seasons: a blanket of pristine deep Rocky Mountain powder in the winter, the sweet green emergence of spring, the glory of summer among the peaks, and a fireworks show of glowing hues in the fall.
Our four Snug Cabins were built by hand in the 1930s and are the perfect balance of mountain log cabin charm and modern comfort. Each features a queen bed with upscale down bedding, a bathroom with organic bath products, a woodstove along with electric heat, and a cute little front porch.
- "My partner and I stayed one night for our anniversary. I wish we had booked a couple more nights! It was so nice overall and all around a positive experience. I loved only getting Wi-Fi at the main lodge. It gave us our time to really disconnect from outside world. We will definitely be booking again this summer! We absolutely loved it!" - "This property was better than the pictures. A little cabin was cozy and clean with plenty of fresh towels coffee etc. We used the hot sauna and the cold plunge as well as the hot tub. I highly recommend this place for peace and serenity!"

- "Relaxing, just “off the grid” enough. All the amenities one could need!" - "We loved our little cabin and the staff were extremely friendly. It's off the grid which is wonderful for disconnecting from the world and connecting with family. There is a sense of roughing it, but with a touch of luxury if that's possible. Our cabin was equipped with enough to make little meals and enjoy board games, and then we enjoyed going out on the canoe and walking around the beautiful property. We had a dog friendly cabin which was great and we were able to enjoy the trip with our pup. They appear to be investing a lot into improving the grounds even further so we look forward to another stay in the future!"

- "Working with Courtney was very smooth. The cabin was a bit cold for winter use. Floor and windows are not insulated well. The furnace had to run very regularly in order to keep the cabin warm. Aside from that the cabin was clean, well equipped, very comfortable to relax in after a day of snowshoeing. Only suggestion I would make is to provide a toaster to the kitchen. We had fun and would visit again in the fall." - "this is wonderful, rustic, small cabin. The star is the grounds - beautiful feel and a friendly group setting. We enjoyed our stay - and life on the river - very much. Dennis"

Surrounded by National Forest only 1 hour from Aspen and accessible year-round, lies Lost Lakes, an outdoor enthusiast’s dream. The North Fork of the Fryingpan River runs through the heart of the property with a private 16 acre reservoir loaded with trout and three fishing ponds. Enjoy fishing, canoeing, hunting (license required), snowmobiling, ATV'ing, hiking, mountain biking, Nordic or backcountry skiing, and more. An updated historic cabin accommodates up to 8 guests with a fully-equipped kitchen, hot/cold running water and more, and the flagstone patio, BBQ, firepit and dock on the reservoir provide for splendid days recreating on the property. And, the property is home to abundant wildlife, it’s common to spot deer, eagles, hawks, muskrat, beavers, and fox; not always in plain view but certainly around are moose, bear and elk. Please note that pets are absolutely forbidden due to severe owner allergies and 4WD or AWD with snow tires are required during the winter for access.
- "A beautiful place to getaway from the hustle and bustle of town for our annual family cabin trip with our best friends. The kids had a wonderful time exploring lost lakes. The dock was perfect for family nights. Bring your bug spray!" - "Stayed here with a group of girlfriends, and this property was absolutely perfect. Spacious, but cozy, and beautifully decorated. A perfect little cabin in the woods to tuck into. We stayed here for a trip to Aspen, which was an hour and twenty from the property. Definitely remote, so make sure you have snow tired and 4WD in the winter, and download your maps because you'll lose service 50 minutes from the property. We can't wait to come back to this perfect spot!"

- "Overall, it is a great property which will only improve as construction is completed next door. It is small but workable unit, on the ground floor overlooking the pool, which makes it seem larger. We did go to our friend's unit in the same building which seemed much larger and had great views from the 2nd floor, so that is something to be aware of. The master is nice, even if it is a little tight, and the master bath is nice too. The 2nd bedroom is really small, and the 2 bunkbeds, while convenient for the 3 teens sleeping there, were squeaky and took up the entire room. There was a bathroom and a small closet and a couple drawers, but no where to put all of their clothes. The kitchen area was very good, with lots of plates/glasses/utensils/etc. The fridge & freezer were high quality. The dishwasher, microwave & washer/dryer worked great. The location was fantastic: ski-in and ski-out from the nice ski locker room (though the organizational system for the locker numbers makes no sense!). It took us a little while to figure out how to get to the locker room, as it is only accessible from 1 elevator bank. Electric Pass Lodge is a very short and easy walk to Snowmass Village, with restaurants and bars and shops. Since it is part of the Snowmass properties, check in was actually at the Snowmass One West (I think) building, not the Electric Pass building, which was a little confusing. Gym in that building was nice and modern."

Beyul Retreat is a wilderness lodge, personal refuge, and gathering space unlike any other. Set between Aspen and Vail, Beyul Retreat at the Diamond J lodge includes 32 private acres of meadows, forest, creeks, waterfalls and ponds, with trails leading right into the White River National Forest. The Frying Pan River remains a wild solitude, traveling through a gorgeous canyon formed from the 250 million-year-old red sandstone Maroon Formation.
Pine Lodge is a great cabin for 5 people with 1 queen, and 2 twin beds.
It includes a front and back porch, kitchenette and wood burning stove.
