- "Nice place only thing I wish the housekeepers start mopping the floors " - "The room was fantastic. While the bedroom part was smaller than usual, having a small kitchen made more size than usual. I really appreciated having that kitchen. I also appreciated that the thermostat was easy to put up and down when needed. There was no elevator and I was on the third floor, which suited me fine but is something to know. The problem is that there's no front desk and check-in is done an odd way. They send codes to get in rather than having someone to handle it when you get there. They wanted my credit card number for a deposit in advance, but they didn't say it was for a deposit - they said it was for paying the bill, and I had already pre-paid the bill. I had to call hotels.com several times on the day of travel because I was on a train and therefore the calls kept dropping, but the staff at hotels.com clearly didn't know that the check-in procedure here was peculiar. They kept assuring me I could do things like take care of the deposit when I got there. Which I couldn't have, since no one was there. It all worked out, and I'll know for next time, but be forewarned. "

The one tv was located in the living room, and while the couch there is cute and decorative, it isn't super comfortable and only fits 2 people. This didn't have any negative impact on our stay, just an observation. We will be traveling again for appointments and we will definitely be staying here again! Once we got the correct codes to get into the building and the correct WiFi, the rest of our stay was fine. It just took about 4 hours to get it all worked out. The floor in our unit was total concrete. There was no carpet or finished flooring. There was patch work and a couple of good sized cracks. "

- "It was a great place to stay, and the booking was very communicative but there was no toilet paper and no hand soap, the amenities needed were not provided" - "The apartment was beautiful, clean, pleasant, quiet. But Barsala's operations were terrible. It's actually a company called Landing (or contracts with it) and their "local/urgent" contact is actually in another state and not on duty after 5pm (when check-in is). The arrival instructions were not entirely accurate. When I found the room, I couldn't get the door open -- fussy key/doorknob. I called the main hotline and was sent to an offshore call center. They called the emergency maintenance guy, who had to drive half an hour to help me get in. Huge inconvenience for him and me. Then the wifi network didn't exist. The automated line sent me another one that didn't exist. The two actual humans from Landing who I got in touch with said they would send a tech out to fix it, but never did. And there was no obvious password for any common area wifi there might have been. Another really frustrating failure when I was there on a work trip and needed access to the internet. I understand they're trying to operate in an asset-lite model, it's not that expensive, and I appreciate being able to stay in an apartment, but yeesh -- you should at least deliver what you say you will. "

The space
You have the entire apartment to yourself during your stay! A parking space for a single car is out front and is included in your stay. The home is located on a relatively quiet street in the city. There is occasional traffic noise. The neighbors have two large dogs that are always leashed or in their gated back yard. There are a few steps to climb to enter the home.

The home is a first floor apartment. There is a completely separate upstairs apt (separate entry, separate EVERYTHING) that we also list on Airbnb, so you may hear footsteps upstairs occasionally.

St Louis is an metropolitan city and we live in the heart of it. Please remove valuables from your vehicle, lock your vehicle and the home when leaving, and exercise relative caution. You might see a fully renovated home next door to a vacant home and across the street from one that's under construction...such is life in St. Louis. The Coffee Plantation Room

This queen-sized bedroom in our historic 1929 apartment building located in the Delmar Loop.

When past presidents came to St. Louis, they made their destination the Delmar Loop, for a reason.

The Delmar Loop has a historic functioning historic trolley, adjacent to Forest Park, rated the best urban park in the USA. The top retail shops, Washington University, and the best music and entertainment venues. Only persons over 18 allowed. Locals only with our approval.

The space
The Coffee Plantation Room is in a shared environment and on the 3rd Floor of this historic 1929, 3 floor and 3 unit apartment building, in the Delmar Loop - the preeminent St. Louis neighborhood.

This queen-bed sized private room for two people maximum, has a cute Coffee theme. It is one of the 11 guest rooms in our BnB style historic apartment building converted into a boutique hotel with 24 hour key less entry access to the house, apartment, and a key for your room.

In addition to your own private room, you will have access to a shared kitchen, living, dining, and bathroom all shared with the other guests in 3 other private rooms in the 1st floor apartment.

This room is inspired by the quaint and colorful colonial style architecture of small towns in the Eje Cafetero of Colombia.

Before South America became the world's most productive coffee region, coffee was a highly expensive drink only available to the wealthiest. This room is our tribute to South America, making coffee a drink for everyone. As my son Leandro has Colombian dual citizenship, this room is inspired by our visits to Colombia.

Many of the historic apartments in this neighborhood include an efficiency sized bedroom, which would have historically been home to a maid--in most cases an Irish immigrant, in the 1920s. Today, the room is decorated in London style to remember the role the British played in spreading the love of tea throughout the world.
The bed sheets visually look like coffee beans, while the comforter looks intentionally like a burlap coffee bean sack (it's actually soft cotton). A solid wood writing desk and desk lamp are also provided.

Washers and dryers are located in the basement and are available to guests between 3 pm to 7 pm.

You will have access to the house through the guest entrance and stairwell in the front entrance of the apartment building, which leads up to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd floors.

You will have your own personal key to your room, and a personal code to access the building generated automatically in one of your first messages. The apartment code is found in your check-in instructions after your reservation is confirmed.

To keep our rates low, we do not replenish these items during your stay.

The Eliot is on the fourth floor of a seven-story apartment building, and accessible by stairs or elevator. Smoking is not allowed in the apartment or anywhere on the premises.

We accept same-day reservations, if you contact us by 2 PM Central Time USA. Upon making a reservation, you will be notified of SF Shannon House Rules. Creation of a reservation indicates acceptance of SF Shannon policies.

If you plan to be in residence longer than a month, we accept monthly payments. There is no lease, but you must submit a rental application and pay a security deposit. Long-term guests must provide proof of their own renters insurance, or pay a nominal monthly fee for Tenant Liability Insurance. This insurance is underwritten by Great American Insurance Group and covers accidental or unintentional damage to the premises, but not to your personal possessions.

State lodging taxes apply to stays less than 30 nights. City lodging taxes apply to stays less than 32 nights.

Sorry, while we all love them, pets are not allowed in the Eliot. If you're traveling with an infant, we have a pack-and-play available for a $10 one-time charge. If you'd like to use it, please let us know.

EASY ACCESS TO THE BEST OF ST. LOUIS
This is an ideal location for discovering the best of St. Louis. This is a transit- and bike-friendly location. Walk to City Foundry, Cortex, Grand Center and the Central West End. Supermarkets, restaurants, bars, coffee houses, and all the amenities of a great urban center are minutes away, either by foot or car. The main campus of St. Louis University is across the street.

LAUNDRY & HOUSEKEEPING
For long-term guests we provide weekly housekeeping. We will make the bed, swap out dirty towels and linens, dust and vacuum. Housekeepers do not wash dishes or take out trash.

For your laundry there is a laundromat with six washers and six dryers in the building's basement. In the apartment you will find an iron and ironing board.

PARKING
Parking is first-come, first-served with a permit that you'll receive upon arrival. Please note that demand is greater than supply. If permit parking is already full, you may park at any nearby metered space at no charge between the hours of 7 PM and 8 AM Monday through Saturday, and all day on Sunday.

IS IT SAFE?
Since all SF Shannon apartments are in the historic core of St. Louis, we occasionally receive the question: “Is it safe?” This question is impossible to answer, because we typically know nothing about the person asking the question. Co-owner Karen lives in the Central West End, about three blocks from the Eliot. She and her her husband raised their sons in this neighborhood, and have always felt perfectly safe.

OTHER THINGS TO NOTE
The Eliot overlooks a busy arterial road. We have earplugs in the apartment for late or light sleepers.

The Eliot features steam heat, with radiators that turn on as needed to keep the whole building at about 70 degrees. If the apartment does not feel that warm - or if it is too hot, let us know. If you want the Eliot to be warmer than about 70 degrees, there is a space heater in the main room closet.

In hot weather, the Eliot is cooled by a window unit air conditioner, which is installed mid-spring and removed mid-fall. Adjust the AC temperature as you see fit.

WHY THAT NAME?
The Eliot is named after notable St. Louisan and author T.S. Eliot. Eliot lived in the Central West End until his graduation from Smith Academy, then part of Washington University.
