The pool is really huge and fantastic but is deep all the way through so might not be good for children or less confident swimmers. The garden is paradise! There’s a good amount of shade as well as sunny spots. The bbq area is fantastic. The charming and eclectic decor is fun to discover and entirely unique. There is a lot of space inside the villa and more than enough bathrooms. The beds themselves are not luxurious (the mattresses are thin and there are a lot of bunk beds which can be a bit of a challenge for adults) but it provides all the basic things you need and we spent nearly all of our time enjoying the outside! It’s easy to get to from the airport, and the tram stop is VERY close which can take you to the beach in 5 mins (or you can walk for about 30 mins) or into the centre of Alicante. Some nice restaurants and bars within a short stroll too. We really enjoyed the privacy and safety of the property which helped us all get an even tan ;) As an LGBT group we felt incredibly welcome - and the host even helped us find the best local gay bars! We look forward to returning to La Gran Duquessa in the future!"

- "Property is ideally located next to a beach and close to the airport. An interesting design, split level with double height spaces and good light. Because I visited in February the lower ground area was cold as there is no heating available. This will be a boon most of the year where this will be a lovely cool sanctuary from the heat. Upstairs has air conditioning units which also act as very effective heaters. I was expecting two bedrooms from the description but there is only one bedroom and a mezzanine area with a bed and pull down sofa. I think this house is more ideally suited to a couple with one child rather than a larger family. The hosts were exceptionally kind, allowing us to stay late for our flight, cooking our family a paella and organising taxis. The pool is very small and cold because no sun reaches the small garden area. It is unnecessary with the beach a few yards away. I would highly recommend this house, but not for a family of 5 with older children. February is the wrong time of year to visit if you want warmth and sun. Later in the year an exceptional property."

- "We know Alicante well so knew what we were likely to expect. A really large garden beautifully maintained with multiple social and dining spaces is a very rare commodity. The house lies close to the branch train line and some people might find the noise intrusive. The house is old fashioned, which we liked, but in 7 days we hardly went inside except to sleep. We don't like air conditioning so we didn't mind that there wasn't any. It's really all about the outdoor spaces, and they were like sets from a 1960's movie."

There is a lot of space inside the villa and more than enough bathrooms. The beds themselves are not luxurious (the mattresses are thin and there are a lot of bunk beds which can be a bit of a challenge for adults) but it provides all the basic things you need and we spent nearly all of our time enjoying the outside! It’s easy to get to from the airport, and the tram stop is VERY close which can take you to the beach in 5 mins (or you can walk for about 30 mins) or into the centre of Alicante. Some nice restaurants and bars within a short stroll too. We really enjoyed the privacy and safety of the property which helped us all get an even tan ;) As an LGBT group we felt incredibly welcome - and the host even helped us find the best local gay bars! We look forward to returning to La Gran Duquessa in the future!"

- "We were so lucky to have found this villa, everything about it was perfect. Joana is such a lovely lady and a great host, she was there to meet us when we arrived and gave us a tour of the house and showed us how everything worked. Both the inside and outside were impressive, usually the photos on a listing make the place seem bigger than it actually is, but this was the opposite. Everything you need to have a lovely villa holiday is there. Everything was absolutely spotless clean, Joana went out of her way to assist us with everything, she even had a wooden cot set up in our room for our 2 year old. Location wise I would say was very good. Aldi is a 5 minute walk which is similar size to the ones in the UK, fairly cheap there as well. We took taxis into the centre of Alicante a few nights, which were fairly cheap around €10 ish and about 10 minute drive. (Download the PideTaxi app and try and book an hour or more in advance to be sure to get a taxi on time, coming home there are loads of taxi ranks) Literally got nothing bad to say about our stay, everything was perfect and we were so happy to meet Joana who made it feel like we were staying at a family members villa.
