Perfectly located between Desoto State Park and Desoto Falls, and only 4 miles from downtown Mentone, this quaint little cottage has tons to offer! Perfect for that weekend getaway, Clark’s Cottage has fiber internet, YoutubeTV, living room space, queen size bed, and kitchenette equipped with a fridge, air fryer, microwave, ice maker, water dispenser, and coffee maker.
Clark’s Cottage also offers one thing that most others do not. We offer a large assortment of complimentary snacks and drinks!

Hmm, I think I’d like a beautifully decorated, intimate little cottage for two, located near some hiking trails into a State or National Park. Oh, and I’d like to hear the train whistle faintly in the valley. If possible I’d also like a campfire we could use, oh, and a grill. And if you can arrange it, I’d like see the deer frolic in the nearby pond. I know this is a tall order, but I’m confident it’s out there somewhere. If you find it, please pencil me in.
The space
This cute cottage has everything you need to relax and enjoy the peace and serenity of creation. It sits right in the middle of our little 20 acres. Even though it is a tiny cottage, you won’t feel cramped. Weather you watch TV, read a book, take a hike in the Little River Canyon National Preserve, sit on the screen porch and watch the sunset, feed the fish, or fish, have a nice romantic dinner or sit at the campfire; you will enjoy this little haven.

The whole cottage is yours. There might be a golf cart parked at your place, but unfortunately is not for your use. My apologies.
Currently, your campfire is shared. We are working on adding a new campfire for the Farmhouse.
Other things to note
The last mile of your journey here is on a dirt road. It has potholes and a scary house. Just keep going and you’ll see the entrance at the mailboxes.

Hmmm, I think a nice little time out is what we need. How about searching for a little cottage in the woods where we can spend some time together. No tasks. No to-do list. No chores. Just a place where we can relax together. Maybe a place by a pond or some hiking trails, or maybe a place where we can get out in a field and run around and play some games. Oh, and could you see if there was a place where we could grill out and maybe roast some marshmallows and sit around and just be.
The space
Isolated from the world, the Black Bear cottage sits on 20 acres surrounded by nature interspersed with a few other cottages and a large Farmhouse and The Country Inn. The catch-and-release pond is just steps away, with a campfire even closer.
Beyond the 20 acres are trails directly into the adjoining Little River Canyon National Preserve where you can find the Shigley swimming hole.

We do not allow pets or smoking on the property. This is an adults only cottage. No children, no infants. We have a dog, Lyza who usually guides people down the trail to the swimming hole and back.

Ultra cute cottage for two. This little cottage started life as a pottery shed behind the Farmhouse. It grew up some and became a rental cottage called Angel’s Rest. We’ve renovated it yet again, and now it is a fully stocked tiny house with everything you’ll need for a relaxing weekend getaway. Borders the Little River Canyon National Preserve and DeSoto State Park, so bring hiking boots and a swimsuit - Shigley Hole.

The space
This little cottage is right in the middle of the property, so you’ll feel the hustle and bustle of The Wilderness. At night you might hear crickets, frogs, cicadas and people sitting around a campfire.

You have access to the pond and the campfire that’s closest to your cottage, and the trailhead is due West from your screen porch, toward the sunset.

**THE RETREAT PROPERTY**
Once lived in by retreat property owners who now live in the larger home on the farm, Faith Family Farmhouse has been an ongoing restoration project of love for guests visiting the farm :) Its own graveled parking area allows guests to park directly by the large open pavilion that is attached to the farmhouse. Under the open pavilion, you will see 3 stairs leading to the porch/deck area, and that is where you will enter the farmhouse.
From every window of this one-level home, there are refreshing views of the beautiful farm. Though small at approximately 538 square feet, you'll have many of the comforts of home, as the retreat property owners have a desire to continue making the farmhouse a home away from home for their guests. Moving into the main living area, you will appreciate the sight of comfortable seating for 4 guests. A 43” Roku TV is mounted in the corner on the wall, and there is Wi-Fi for streaming movie nights after a day of adventures at Lookout Mountain :). There is a large comfy sofa that can be made into a queen bed if needed with a comfortable memory foam mattress. In the laundry area and bonus room, there is a “sofa bed kit” - with bedding for guests 3 and 4 if required.
Directly next to the living room area is a small fold-out dining table with 2 chairs. There is also an outdoor dining table with 4 chairs under the open pavilion, and guests can bring those chairs inside, as needed, for dining inside.
The kitchen is complete with a refrigerator, gas stove, dishwasher, crock pot, toaster, microwave, blender, cooking pots, can opener, cooking utensils, dishes, drinking glasses, eating utensils, cooking spices, and more. There is also a 12-cup drip coffee maker and an electric hot water kettle for making hot teas and hot chocolate :)
An HVAC system was installed in November 2024, with dual mini split units in the living area and bedroom - keep the cottage very comfortable with remote controls.
There is a full bathroom with a sink, toilet and tub/shower combo that includes a handheld shower faucet option. The primary bedroom is located next to the bathroom and has comfortable quilted bedding for your rest and relaxation.
Next to the primary bedroom, there is a bonus room and laundry area that is open to the primary bedroom. There is plenty of closet space and a dresser in the bonus room, as well as a twin bed with comfortable bedding. Also in this bonus room is a washer and dryer for your convenience during your retreat.

So that you can experience life on the mountain like locals, we provide our guests with a list of all the attractions and restaurants! Chattanooga is only an hour away - Birmingham and Atlanta are less than 2 hours away!
**OUR POLICIES**
You will receive an email to e-sign a vacation rental agreement and upload your photo ID before the reservation is complete.
This retreat property allows small dogs only (less than 20 lbs), leashed at all times due to sensitivity of farm animals. If you wish to bring a small dog, a pet fee of $69 applies per dog (2 dogs max). There is a beautiful area beside the farmhouse designated for walking dogs so that farm animals are not disturbed.
This retreat property does NOT allow smoking anywhere on the property.
Exterior security cameras are located at this property.
There is a $300 security deposit HOLD required for this retreat property.
Guests will receive email communication from Peaceful Retreats prior, during and after each retreat.
Do not approach the animals. The farm animals are very sensitive, so please be very respectful. Chickens are free-range pets of the retreat property owners. They love to take strolls throughout the property.
Contact the Host directly, at least 24 hours before day of check-in, to schedule a guided farm tour, subject to availability.
