They even offer loaner mini-shovels for hot water beach excavations! When returning to the chalet in the late afternoon the interior was very hot as is probably expected summer without any a/c. There are also 2 bicycles for use. We just didn’t have time for those between other visits in the outlying area. This a definite return place if we come back to this area of NZ from the states. There is a washing machine, but the "dryer" is a set of cloths lines in the back yard! lol I had the impression this property was closer to the beach and maybe even had a nice view, but that is not the case. It is located just off the main shopping street in a neighborhood with a view of a gas station :-(. It's quiet at night, but noisy with vehicle traffic during the day. We were out and about during the day and only used the home for sleeping, showering etc. It was just fine for that, but a relaxing vacation home to spend time in, this is not. That said, it is clean and well managed with good communication with the property management. I would not say it's a 10 or "exceptional". IMO it's a 6 at best. It's just okay. I would not book it again. Waiheke Island, however is beautiful and well worth visiting! "

Located at the site of the original Pirinoa Station Homestead this restored shepherds cottage is set amongst huge gum trees in the heart of the farm. With rustic features this cosy off-the-grid cottage is a perfect relaxing weekend getaway.

The space
Nestled in rural South Wairarapa this homely, beautifully restored slice of paradise is a truly special retreat. Originally constructed in the late 1860's this incredibly peaceful cottage is surrounded by nature. With large decks on both sides you can enjoy rural New Zealand at it's best while listening to the birds and the nearby river and soaking up the sun. In Winter curl up by the fireplace and get stuck into your favourite book.

You will be able to wander around the surrounding paddock and explore as long as you leave gates as you find them and leave the farm stock in peace You'll find a large family tree, amongst the gum trees, detailing the generations of those who were and are currently caretakers of the land you are visiting.

Guests will drive approx. 4km on a gravel road through the working farm to access the cottage. There may be closed gates on this lane to open and leave as you find them.
The cottage has a queen bed in one room and two singles in the second room. The single beds lie foot to foot and are best suited to children or smaller adults as the feet of larger people are likely to touch - no worries if this is not an issue for you as 4 adults are welcome to book of course.
You will be able to visit The Land Girl cafe in the village for a yummy coffee and scone and a browse through the lovely shop. They have local wool blankets for purchase which you will see in the cottage. The Land Girl is open 5 days 8.30 to 3pm (closed Tues/Wed).
