The staff was very accommodating when we needed to change our booking, and again when the weather caused us to check-in after regular hours. If you are looking for the 'cabin experience', this quintessential cabin in the pines won't disappoint. The property was originally purchased and built by my grandparents in 1958 and has been in our family ever since; it was completely renovated by my wife and I in 2011. A small but efficient layout, the cabin has a wonderful screen porch, sitting area with gas fireplace, and dining room; all with panoramic views of the lake, which is only steps away. It has one bedroom on the main level (king), and a semi-private loft with two queen size beds. There is one 3/4 bath, and a great outdoor shower with views of the lake for those true Minnesotan's. The inside space flows seamlessly to a large lakeside patio with grill, outdoor dining area, fire pit and coffee sitting area. The rental comes complete with a pontoon boat (2023 Bennington), a 4-person paddleboat, a canoe, and of course a hammock in the yard. For those that can't disconnect, the cabin also includes two high-definition TVs with Cable (DVD/Blu-Ray on main TV) and free Wi-Fi! And don't worry, you won't be roughing it, the 2011 renovation also brought all new mechanical systems including air conditioning, new appliances, and a new Kinetico softened water system!!

Situated 5 miles east of the town of Crosslake, crystal clear Lake O'Brien is spring fed with a water clarity of 24', the cleanest lake in the entire watershed district. The lake itself is surrounded by mature pines. There is approximately 5 miles of shoreline, of which about a quarter of the lake is undeveloped state-owned property. During the summer, this recreational lake is perfect for fishing, skiing, wake boarding, canoeing, kayaking, paddle boarding and any other water-based activities, including floating on an air mattress!! There is a sandbar where you can walk across the lake which is a favorite gathering spot for 'kids of all ages'!! It's location on a quiet tar township road make it perfect for a morning walk or bike ride. During the winter months the lake is perfect for ice fishing, cross country skiing, snowshoeing, and is a perfect base camp to access the endless miles of groomed snowmobile trails.

Our property is perfect for a family of up to 6 or a few couples. We have a strict limit of 6 due to the size of the cabin and the single bathroom. We do keep our calendar updated and so if you are seeing availability then it's likely available. Upon reservation confirmation you'll receive a complete 'what to bring' list so you are prepared for your time up north. Feel free to inquire with any questions you may have and we’ll be prompt to reply! We pride ourselves on keeping our property and structures/equipment pristine and are certain we'll exceed your expectations in that regard. And further, since we also live on this lake, should any questions or problems arise we can respond quickly. In fact, your only disappointment will be when you have to leave!!

Winter season brings a whole new array of activities and scenery. The snow covered white pines with the blue water of Lake Superior is amazing! We have a sweet dove tail wood fired sauna. There are 2 sets of snowshoes and trails from the door. Also several great cross country ski trails nearby, including Tettegouche State Park, where you can ski into an old hunting camp of several log cabins and a nice lodge. You can pack in a lunch and make a fire in the fireplace. There is also the Northwoods Ski Trail in Silver Bay and Flathorn-Gegoka in Isabella, just to name a few.

There is a queen and a double bed in the loft with a huge skylight for star gazing and lightning storms. The screen porch also has incredible views and is a comfortable place to relax, there is also a comfy futon in the living room.

Centrally located on the North Shore only 50 miles to Grand Marais, 58 miles to Duluth or 50 miles to Ely and the Boundary Waters. The Silver Bay Marina is only six miles away. Superior Hiking trail is a quarter mile. Ring camera doorbell is on site; located beside entry door. Kayak rental is available from Sawbill outfitters.

The Palisade Log Cabin is a lake front, wooded private retreat on the north shore of Lake Superior. It is located just off Highway 61, one mile northeast of Silver Bay. It is about a half mile through heavily wooded lots to the 45-year-old secluded and authentic log cabin. The cabin sits on seven acres of private land, and has more than 460 feet of high rugged Lake Superior shoreline.

There are incredible views to the north of the Palisade Head Cliffs. These cliffs reach 350 feet high and are a favorite of rock climbers. You can hear the waves of the lake crashing against the ledge rock cliffs just 70 feet from the cabin. The sunrises over the lake are spectacular; in the evening you might be able to view the northern lights.

We installed a geothermal heating/cooling system in October 2012 which should keep the cabin warm and cozy all winter long, and cool in the summer. Enjoy the peace and solitude of the whispering pines and birch while watching a bald eagle flying above. You can read a book or play cards/games near the cabin’s warm wood stove. Outside you can toast marshmallows at the fire pit or play horseshoes. Search for Thomsonites, agates, crystals, cobblestones, or driftwood at the nearby Black beach, go berry picking, or view colorful spring wild flowers and brilliant fall foliage.

There are many things to do and explore in the area:
-Drive the Highway 61/Superior National Forest Scenic Byway and visit the beautiful Minnesota state parks nearby (see map).
-Hike on The Superior Hiking Trail that runs from Two Harbors to the Canadian border. -Ride your bike on the Gitche Gami Bike Trail that runs along Highway 61.
-Snowmobile on the North Shore State Snowmobiling Trail or drive an ATV on designated ATV trails from Duluth to Grand Portage.
-Try cross-country skiing on the North Shore Mountain Cross Country Ski Trail.
-Visit Lutsen Mountains ski resort 36 miles from the cabin.

In the summer you can go to Black Beach less then a mile away, and nearby beautiful sandy beaches which are part of Tettegouche State Park or hike to the beautiful High Falls. Take a charter boat tour or fishing trip out of the Silver Bay Marina, that is 3.5 miles to the southwest. If you're adventurous, you can go kayaking in the cove. Golfing is available at Silver Bay golf course, and there is live music in Silver Bay July 14- September 1.

Watch for giant iron ore carriers on Lake Superior; they depart from Silver Bay and head east to Cleveland. Look for wildlife around the cabin and you may see eagle, deer, moose, bear, fox, wolf, and beaver. If you don’t feel like cooking, dine at a variety of fine nearby restaurants (Northwoods Cafe in Silver Bay, Lemon Wolf in Beaver Bay, Cove Point Lodge in Beaver Bay; Rustic Inn near Two Harbors) or check out the new Timber Coffee Company near downtown Silver Bay.

There is also a local grocery store, Zups, located just five minutes for the cabin for last minute supplies.

The Writer's Cabin is a quaint, long established residence hidden in the oldest part of town. It has been fully restored and modernized to provide all the creature comforts and yet remain historic in nature. This is an original "Tiny home" as it was originally constructed nearly 100 years ago. We did expand the bath to accommodate the jacuzzi, and we raised the ceilings and brightened the entire cabin. A sauna is available on a first come first serve basis for an additional fee. Contact us for details. The Writer's Cabin is set amidst lush landscaping for privacy, and the cabin is only steps from the harbor. All amenities are provided including an enameled cast iron gas fireplace, a therapeutic air tub for two, a queen bed, a well equipped modern kitchen with oven and stove, smart Roku TV, an antique secretary writing desk, high speed wireless internet (best in town), and various objects of interest representative of famous writers and local writers including locally written books and Ernest Hemmingway's favorite model of typewriter. A sauna is available for a fee on a first come first serve basis and all info on it can be found on our web site or inquire with us here. Attention Air BnB guests: If you paid the dog fee through Air BnB it only covers one dog, you will be responsible to contact the cabin owner to pay for any 2nd dog. We do not recommend more than 2 guests in the Writer's Cabin, it has one queen bed and one non fold out sofa. The base rate included 2 guests and additional guests are $30 per guest up to 3 maximum. 4 guests are possible but it is going to be crowded. Dogs are $100 per dog with a maximum of 2 dogs. We love dogs. Dogs are allowed at this property with your acceptance of our dog rules and payment of the fee. No dogs under 1 year old. Each pet fee is good for one dog. $100 per dog per stay and it is the guest's responsibility to ensure payment of the fee and to be familiar with our dog rules. No cats or other creatures :-). Dogs are not allowed on furniture without a fresh, clean blanket that you provide that they can not scratch away. Dogs must be kept in portable kennels if you are not present.

Lastly, we recommend you consider trip insurance- especially in winter, or if you are taking classes that may be cancelled. We have discounted our rates on our direct website by an additional 7% (the total savings between our direct site and say... another famous site is now 14-21% but only if you book on our direct site). We are doing this so that you may select trip insurance during your booking process. It will be offered to you while you are completing your booking and they charge 7%. A peaceful and calming escape from a busy life, it is a wonderful place to disconnect where you can relax all day or a great place to come home to after a day of exploring the hiking trails, parks, and Lake Superior beaches. Sit on the deck and enjoy the view of the lake while listening to the wind in the large white pines surrounding the cabin.

Take a break under the tall pines in the provided hammock or build a fire in the outdoor fire ring. Watch wildlife and listen to the birdsong in the morning. The interior of the cabin is welcoming and spacious and truly is relaxing just to walk into. Enjoy cooking in the large kitchen; relaxing in a recliner or rocking chair in front of the fire; sit on the balcony reading a book; play games, cards, watch a movie, enjoy a game of air hockey or foosball; or just have a drink or grill a meal on the deck while enjoying nature and the view. Each season brings a different appeal to the cabin.

It is located just outside the quaint town of Beaver Bay, which has various restaurants and a few shops to explore. The paved Gitchi-Gami trail, which has several segments along the shore, is just across the road at the end of the driveway. Bike rental is available at Cove Point Crossing about 1/2 mile from the cabin. Bike the trail to Split Rock Lighthouse or Gooseberry Falls. Mountain bike (or hike) the new Split Rock Wilds trail right from the cabin or park closer at the nearby trailhead. Hike to Cove Point to get a drink or a pizza. Split Rock Lighthouse State Park is a 5 minute drive and Gooseberry Falls is a 15 minute drive away, Palisade Head and Tettegouche State Park only 20 minutes. All of these parks offer great hiking and sightseeing opportunites with waterfalls, lighthouse, and lake views. The Superior HIking Trail, which spans the whole North Shore, is accessible within 1/2 mile of the cabin.

The attractive town of Two Harbors is only 1/2 hour away and has many shops, restaurants, and a lighthouse to explore. Lutsen Mountain near Tofte offers breathtaking views while downhill skiing. Speed down the mountain on the Alpine Slides or take the relaxing Gondola ride up to the top of the Sawtooth range to have a lunch with a sweeping view of Lake Superior. Grand Marais and Ely are about an hour away and have many shops and seasonal festivals and activities. Check out the North House Folk School for year round classes.

In winter some of the best snowshoeing and skiing abound just down the road. Tettegouche has maintained cross country ski trails. All ungroomed trails are great for snowshoeing and the rivers are beautiful in the winter!

There is a snowmobile trail that starts near the cabin and joins up with the north shore trail system.

Important Information to Read Prior to Booking:
- There is no running water or bathroom INSIDE of the cabin. **There is an outhouse on site. We also have a high powered well located outside of the cabin to pump clean water for dishes, cooking, showering, etc.**
- The well water is clean but it does contain lots of iron. **We recommend bringing drinking water.**
- It has been an extremely wet season. We have fumigated for bugs multiple times, but the bugs can still get pretty bad at night. **We recommend bringing layers, some bug spray or nets for your comfort.**
- Wood for outside fires and the sauna is provided.
- There is no shower at this time. We do have a camp shower that can be hung up outside the sauna. We also like to rinse off/shower with cold water after a nice sauna session as a way to clean off as well. Get creative!

We loved sleeping up in the loft area, it was the coziest spot! We loved that they had board games and books. They had plenty do lights outside, especially leading to the bathroom which was nice. Located in the heart of Federal Dam, we may not be on the water but we are conveniently located just three blocks away from the iconic Federal Dam and Leech Lake Rec area where you can fish from shore or take your own boat out on Leech Lake or the Leech River. Many other fishing spots in reasonable distances. We are also just blocks away (walking distance) from the Soo Line Trail north, a 150 mile ATV trail that's great for hiking, biking, or bringing your ATV's.

The space
We have two rental cabins on the property as well as a Gift Shop and Bait Shop. We have room for parking for truck/trailer or truck/boat.

Each cabin is identical in layout and can sleep up to four guests, with a queen bed in the bedroom, twin bed in the main living area, couch in the living room that folds into a full bed, kitchen table with chairs, and a full kitchen. The bathroom has a full shower stall. Base rental rate per night covers 1 - 2 people, $45 for each additional person up to four guests.

Each cabin has pots/pans, silverware, dishes, cooking utensils, toaster, and a coffee maker with filters in the kitchen. Hair dryer in the bathroom. Smart TV's in the living rooms.

Guest making the booking must be the one to check in and be staying at the cabin during the reservation.

Check in at the Gift Shop between 2 - 7 pm. Check Out is 10 am.

We allow pets in the cabins with pet fee, but they must remain leashed, picked up after, and not be left alone in the cabins or tied up outside unsupervised.

Please note: Due to the current of the river and the Dam itself, there is no swimming beach located in Federal Dam. You can drive to Sugar Point or Walker for swimming access. The closest true grocery store is 25 miles south in Longville.

This little cabin sits in the middle of a small campground on the shore of Round Lake. It's a family-friendly, quiet area with all the camping amenities. There is a range, microwave and sink in the cabin. It also has AC. The garage next door offers refrigerator, grills, griddle, tables and chairs available to all guests. At this time, only a porta potty for bathroom, but bathhouse is in the future plans! Dock space, paddle boards, kayaks, playset, firepit and picnic tables for use.

PJ at Bally Creek Cabins is a cozy step back in time, with lantern lit, wood-heated cabins, and of course an outhouse. These are camping cabins featuring no electricity or running water. We provide water in insulated igloos. We have a wonderful wood-fired sauna for your enjoyment! Each cabin is spaced for privacy and has a picnic table and a tri-pod barbecue over a firepit. You can ski right out the door on groomed trails, and we also have a one kilometer trail you can ski with your dog.

Guests will have this cozy cabin all to themselves, and PJ has its own parking spot in front of the cabin in summer, in winter there is a separate spot plowed about 50 yards from the cabin!

For guests staying four nights or more between May 15 and September 15, we will include the use of one 17' alumicraft canoe for your use...includes life jackets, paddles, and car-top carrier. Karimi's Cozy Cabin is nestled on beautiful Lake Vermilion in NE MN. Enjoy your morning cup of coffee on the deck only 15 feet from the shore, or sit on the dock and fish for your breakfast. A Peaceful and tranquil cabin for a summer retreat.
The cabin was renovated during the spring of 2024 adding a 10 X 18 foot multipurpose room. Currently there’s one private bedroom with a queen size bed, also two futons and a single bed for guests.

The space
Lake Vermilion is one of the largest and most beautiful lakes in MN with 365 islands and 1200 miles of shoreline. Excellent place for walleye and musky fishing. The cozy cabin has everything you need to be comfortable for your summer getaway. One queen size bed plus a futon and single bed in the living room. All the kitchen utensils and bathroom amenities you need.

Please note tap water comes from the lake and is used for dishes and showers. We will provide fresh spring water for drinking.

Guest access
Available for all guests are: private dock, sandy beach, paddle boat, two kayaks, and charcoal grill. There are cards, jigsaw puzzles and board games available for all guests. There is a coffee pot , grinder and filters and a toaster. The kitchen is equipped with everything you need for preparing meals.

Guest access
Guests have full private access to the cabin and everything in it. You can drive right up to your cabin door and park next to it. There are plenty of games and puzzles to enjoy on rainy days. There are lounge chairs to relax and enjoy laying out in the sun, or go for walks and explore the area.

You will have access to two docks, all docks for the cabins in the area are located in one spot. If you plan on bringing a boat there is a $25 dock rental fee.

The cabin is in a wooded lot near a lake, guests should expect to encounter various bugs and animals when outdoors.
